VINSON W. TUCKER, AGE 79, WHO WAS KILLED IN ATTACK BY SEVERAL DOGS IN McCREARY COUNTY ON THE MORNING JULY 11
Kentucky State Police are investigating the bizarre and vicious death of a 79-year-old man who was attacked and killed by a pack of dogs in McCreary County.
In a press release, the KSP says that around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, they received a report of a body in a yard on KY HWY 1651. The body was discovered Tuesday morning laying in a yard off Highway 1651 near Whitley City in McCreary County. Upon arrival, detectives discovered 79-year-old Vinson W. Tucker, of Stearns, dead.
After further investigation, Kentucky State Police looked at security footage and saw a pack of dogs attacking Vinson Tucker. Troopers say when they reviewed the surveillance footage from a nearby home, the video showed Vinson Tucker being attacked by several dogs.
The coroner pronounced Tucker dead at 10:23 Tuesday morning.
Eric Branscum, Vinson Tucker’s neighbor, said his neighbor was just trying to take care of business at Mike Stephen’s Wrecking/Tow Yard when the dogs attacked. Vinson Tucker’s relatives stated Tucker went to the towing yard to make a payment. That’s when the dogs attacked him.
“Vinson had been out there several times at Mike’s, him and Mike was pretty good friends, you know. And, just today Mike wasn’t there and the dogs turned violent,” Branscum mentioned. “The detective said that he had a dog on each arm and a dog on each leg.”
Although state police stated that the dogs were located near the scene and put down, Mr. Branscum said that his neighbor deserves justice over his unexpected death.
“Mike is saying the dogs aren’t his, but yet they stayed at his garage and he fed them and apparently they’ve been there for a long time because he had a bunch of puppies from them dogs at his house. I mean, it’s hard to say you don’t own a dog if you take care of it and it lives at your house, at your business,” Branscum added. “I’d just like to see justice for his family… and dealt with accordingly.”
“He was just a good guy,” Tucker’s cousin Mike Hines said. “That’s all I can say about him is he’s just a good guy. I hate to see a 79-year-old man go that way. It’s just sad and nothing you can do about it.”
Troopers said the dogs were being sent to the state veterinarian for a necropsy and to be tested for rabies.
Troopers also stated Tucker’s body was being sent to the state medical examiner in Frankfort for an autopsy on Wednesday.

A Wolfe County man was arrested in the early hours on Tuesday, July 11, after killing his horse with an ax, but posted bail within a couple of hours as he was only charged with a misdemeanor criminal offense.
Carl Miller, 72, of Campton. was charged with second degree animal cruelty and is scheduled to appear in court on August 9th.
According to local law enforcement officials, Carl Miller told them he was upset because the horse he owned kept jumping the wired fence between his property and into the neighbor’s yard, damaging the fence.
Officials said Miller did not want the horse to cause any more damage to the fence so he took an ax to the horse’s head. The gruesome incident took place on the property line of Miller and his neighbor on late Monday evening July 10.
The daughter of Carl Miller, Starr Campbell, told officers that her father killed the horse with an ax because the family did not have a gun to own that could have been used.
Carl Miller was arrested and charged with • CRUELTY TO ANIMALS-2ND DEGREE and taken at 1:45 A.M. to the Three Forks Regional Jail in Beatyville in Lee County. Miller posted bond short;y thereafter early Tuesday morning.
Starr Campbell, Carl Miller daughter, defended her father and attempted to rationalize her father’s disturbing actions
“I see both sides. I don’t condone what he did. I don’t like what he did. But he’s just from that generation where that’s what they did when they didn’t see anything fit, they got rid of it,” said Campbell.
