Traffic Signals, Lane Restrictions in Place Through November

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (July 2, 2025) –The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 12 advises the public of an upcoming bridge replacement project on KY Route 1 in Willard, near the Lawrence and Carter County line. Construction will begin Monday, July 7, 2025, with a primary completion date set for mid November.

The project, located between milepoints 14.126 and 14.140, will involve a full replacement of the bridge superstructure over Dry Fork including beams, deck, and barrier wall, all of which are being replaced due to the poor condition of the existing structure.

Walker Construction will serve as the prime contractor for the work.

Traffic Impacts & Lane Restrictions

  • Traffic will be reduced to one lane, controlled by temporary traffic signals throughout construction.
  • Vehicles will use one side of the bridge while the opposite side is demolished and reconstructed.
    • Initial traffic will use the southbound lane while the northbound lane is under construction.
    • Once completed, traffic will shift to the new northbound lane while the southbound lane is replaced.
  • The travel lane across the bridge will be narrowed to 10 feet 6 inches, with a 10-foot width restriction in effect. Wide load traffic must use alternate routes.

Motorists should expect delays in the work zone, observe all signage and signals, and plan alternate routes if driving oversized or wide-load vehicles.

For updates on this and other projects in District 12, visit transportation.ky.gov or follow KYTC District 12 on social media.
