BREAKING: Democrat Webb joins the GOP…TRUMP EFFECT?
State Sen. Robin Webb, who has served as a Democrat in both chambers of the Kentucky General Assembly, said today she will change her party registration to Republican.
“While it’s cliché, it’s true: I didn’t leave the party – the party left me,” Webb said in a statement to be released later today. “The Kentucky Democratic Party has increasingly alienated lifelong rural Democrats like myself by failing to support the issues that matter most to rural Kentuckians.
Webb emphasized that her core values have not changed.
“First and foremost, I’m a mother, a rancher, and a lawyer with deep personal and professional roots in Kentucky’s coal country. As the Democratic party continues its lurch to the left and its hyperfocus on policies that hurt workforce and economic development in my region, I no longer feel it represents my values. It has become untenable and counterproductive to the best interests of my constituents for me to remain a Democrat.”
Webb, of Grayson, was elected to the state Senate in 2008 after serving a decade in the Kentucky House.
Her move to the GOP leaves the Democrats with six members in the 38-member Kentucky Senate.

Robin Webb, the Senator from Carter, to the Senate Majority Caucus. “On behalf of Senate Leadership and the entire Senate Majority, I welcome Sen. Robin Webb to our caucus. With her addition, the Senate Republican Caucus has reached a historic milestone of 32 members. This is a powerful sign that our proven approach to sound, conservative policymaking is winning hearts and minds across the state. “Robin’s policy record speaks for itself.
