Bulldogs start fresh with one of their own
Louisa, Ky. — Lawrence Co. will be under new leadership in the 2016 football season after Joey Cecil stepped down in February. Former Bulldog great Alan Short will take over a team that is coming off a great run the past couple years but lost 17 starters from a 9-4 team that lost in the Regional Championship to eventual state champion Belfry.
Short will be the 11th Head Coach in school history. First Head coach since 1985 to play and be a Louisa native.
Coach Short played at LC from 1996-1999 and was a record setting QB. He went on to Cambellsville University from 2001-2004 and was a three year starter and also a two year team captain. He is also the Track Coach at Lawrence Co.
Coach Short is already working hard on the job, getting ready for next year and the Dawgs have around 50 kids participating in the weight program not including basketball and baseball players.
Short said he will call the plays just as he has done the last 5 years and rely on his staff to help put things together. He also implicated the football staff will remain the same as last year..
“Don’t expect much of a turnover as far as coaches go,” Short said.
“We want to stay consistent, we will have competition at every spot this season because we lost 9 starters on offense and 8 on defense.”
“”This program means a lot to me and outside of my family I have been influenced by so many football friends including Chuke Williams, Coach Cecil, Billy Reed, Eddie Dixon, Micheal Copley, Phil Ratliff, Walter Pigmon and so many others that I have learned from, ” Short said. “I only wanted the job if I felt like I earned it, I didn’t want anything handed to me.”
“I want to thank Dr. Fletcher, Christy Moore and Travis Feltner for hiring me”
Lawrence Co. won’t change much on offense, probably won’t throw it as much as last year. “From the kids that I have talked to they all seem excited with the hire,” Short said.
Coach Short, 34, is the district home bound teacher and his wife, Chelsee is also a teacher in the county and the couple has one child, 5 month old daughter, Ellouise.
