Bright future ahead for young Lawrence Co. team
Pikeville, Ky. — Lawrence Co. had the draw they wanted but just couldn’t make enough shots in 66-51 defeat vs Prestonsburg in the 15th region tournament at the expo center on Monday night. The Lady Dawgs shot 23.4% from the field, 18.2% from the three, and 51.5 from the foul line. Those numbers will not get it done in the postseason.
LC didn’t get the start they wanted and fell behind 7-2 and 14-3 midway through the first quarter and made a little run to get it to 18-11 at the end of one. Tiffany Meadows of Prestonsburg was the star of the night as she poured in 16 first half points to give the Lady Blackcats a 38-22 lead at the break. Meadows finished with 23 points to lead the Lady Blackcats. In the 2nd half the Lady Dawgs didn’t give up and played until the final horn but the first half deficit was to much to over come.
Tough way to go out for Layken Chapman, Kara Williamson and Destiny Chapman but at least it ended at the Expo Center in the Region Tournament.
Alexis Ratliff led Lawrence Co. in scoring with 14 points and 5 assists, Layken Chapman had 7 points including 2 three pointers, Kendra Spaulding had 6 points and team leading 10 rebounds, Kara Williamson and Kelly Davis had 5 points and 5 rebounds each, Kassidy Cavins and Kylie Maynard 4 points each, Sheree Hay tallied 3 points, Chelsey Fields chipped in with 2 points and Scyler Bowens hit 1 free throw.

COACH’S QUOTES
“… Young team like we have and then we fell behind it was too much for us to overcome.” Defensively we couldn’t stop Tiffany Meadows she was very good tonight.” We struggled all year offensively and that continued vs Prestonsburg.” Couldn’t be prouder of our young girls for stepping up for the 4 seniors we lost last year and not having a point guard to start the year.” I really like our future and we will get to work as soon as we can to get ready for next year.” Thanks for all of the coverage this year.”
