ADKINS POURS IN 36 BUT DAWGS COME UP JUST SHORT IN DOUBLE OT AGAINST PERRY CENTRAL

Eastern, Ky In a double overtime thriller Lawrence Co. came up just short 69-67 against Perry Co. Central in the Class 2A Section 8 tournament Monday at Floyd Central.

Sophie Adkins is top ten in the state for scoring average this season. 

Sophie Adkins poured in a game high 36 points, Jada Patton added 18 points, Maddison Artrip netted 6 points, Abby Maynard tallied 5 points and Emalynn Kitts chipped in with 2 points. 

The Dawgs hit 4 three pointers and went 9 of 13 from the charity stripe. 

Perry Co. Central ( 12-4 ) was led by Brooklyn Cornett with 29 points, Shyanne Couch had 15 points, Taylor Couch 11 points, Jacklynn Amis and Shawna Anderson had 5 points each, Emily Noble had 4 points. 

The Dores hit 9 three pointers and went 10 of 16 from the free throw line. 

Jada Patton has become a consistent scorer during her freshman season. 

The Commodores will face Johnson Central ( 13-2 ) for the Section 8 title on Tuesday at Floyd Central. 

The Bulldogs ( 5-8 ) will return to action with a big road District game at Floyd Central on Friday.

COACH’S COMMENTS

“…We battled again through out the entire game. Double overtime again and lose by 2. All of the situations will continue to help us get ready for post season play. Sure we want our record to be better than what it is but we’re playing very good teams and learning from each of them. I told the girls we just have to keep working to get better and get this monkey off our back. Friday’s district game is another important game. We’re gonna work the next few days to get ready for them.
