Myrtle Beach, S.C. — The Lawrence Co. Baseball and Softball teams have arrived safely in the Palmetto State for a week of games in the sunshine at the Cal Ripken experience. Both teams have played one game each so far.
Louisville Male 7 Lawrence Co. 3 ( Sunday )
The Dawgs dropped to 5-3 on the young season to a very good Louisville Male (7-2) in their opening game in the Cal Ripken experience South Carolina.
The Bulldogs used six different pitchers in the game. Kade Sword started on the mound followed by Blake Jordan, Brad Parks, Bryce Blevins, Jarrett Fairchild and Lucas Maynard. The Dawgs only gave up two earned runs but had some untimely walks and errors to help out the Bulldogs from Louisville.
Peyton Cyrus had a hit and two RBIs, Jarrett Fairchild had a RBI double, Austin Roe and Jackson Feltner had a hit and scored a run.
Junior Varsity team took care of Fairview on Monday 14-4.
Baseball Dawgs will return to action on Tuesday at Noon vs Greenwood ( 5-5 ).
GIRL’S SOFTBALL: Ashland, Va. 5 Lawrence Co. 2 ( Monday )
The Lady Dawgs fell behind early on their first game of the Cal Ripken experience and couldn’t recover against a team out of Bristol. The Lady Dawgs defense let them down as Ciana Bowen only gave up two hits and struck out ten batters. Brittney Shapaka had a two run triple that scored Haleigh Peck who tripled and Halli Caudill who singled in front of Shapaka for the Lady Dawgs only runs of the game. Keyeraha Bowen and Abby Fletcher both had singles.
Junior Varsity team beat Fairview 15-7 on Monday afternoon.
Lawrence Co. ( 2-4 ) will return to action and play Fern Creek ( 6-9 ) Tuesday afternoon at 3:00.

“… We completed quite well and pitched Ok. Thought Sword pitched well and we threw the guys that hadn’t pitched much, couple of them got themselves in trouble with walks and then we booted it around a little too. We aren’t good enough to do that against really good teams. We have zero margin for error.”
