ACTC Offers a 12-week Session
Ashland Community and Technical College is offering 12-week classes this spring to give new and continuing students additional options for earing college credit. The 12-week classes have the same content as semester-long classes but cover the content in less time.
On-campus courses at the College Drive Campus are offered in Basic Public Speaking, Digital Literacy and History of the US since 1965. Intro to Art, Intro to Communications and Social Media I are offered online, and Writing I is offered both on campus and online. These classes can help students fulfill basic education requirements for degrees and diplomas.
Pre Algebra, Intermediate Algebra and Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education classes in Science/Math and Literacy/Language are also offered.
Jan. 23 is the application deadline. The session starts Feb. 9 and ends May 7. New students must complete the application process, including orientation and placement testing before registering. New students enrolling only in the 12-week session may be eligible for financial aid. To apply for financial aid, complete the 2016-17 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov. ACTC Photography Classes
Take your photography and Photoshop skills to the next level with classes at ACTC. J. B. Cremeans, a local photographer and experienced instructor, will share tips and techniques for taking more professional-looking photos and producing Photoshop effects.

Intro to Photography on Mondays, March 6 to April 10 is designed for beginners and hobbyists who want to do more than point and shoot. Participants will get one-on-one instruction and detailed notes on using their camera features. The fee is $75.
Intro to Photography 2 on Tuesdays, March 7 to April 11, will cover advanced features and techniques such as EV and flash compensation, advanced white balance, metering and other settings. A camera with manual functions is highly recommended for this class. The fee is $75.
An Intro to Photoshop class on Wednesdays, March 8 to April 12, is ideal for anyone interested in photography, graphic design, photo restoration or digital scrapbooking. Participants will learn how to enhance photos for web sharing or print and to add graphics to labels, greeting cards and display materials. The fee is $85.
Social Media Class Starts Feb. 6
Social Media in Your Marketing Plan is a class offered by ACTC Workforce Solutions to help businesses and organizations take advantage of new media in generating awareness and sales. This class will include an overview of social media including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram with attention to how they are currently being used.
Participants will learn how to develop a marketing plan that incorporates the best practices in using social media to engage your audience. Tips for integrating social media into the organization website and for using workflow tools such as Hootsuite and Buffer will be included.
Instructor Julie Hewett is an expert in using social media to promote client growth in small businesses and nonprofit associations. The owner of JulNet Solutions in Huntington, she has over 20 years of experience in helping member based associations connect with members and promote client growth.

Driving Instruction Class
ACTC’s Driving Instruction Class will start later this spring to help teens and adults prepare for the road. Students will learn good driving skills through on-the-road driving practice. Completion of the six-hour class may also help reduce auto insurance rates.
Participants must have a valid driver’s permit or license and must be prepared to attend all class sessions as scheduled. This class is designed for those who have prior driving experience but would like to hone their driving skills. Sessions are scheduled on weekday evenings or Saturdays on a first-come basis.

Electrical/HVAC Continuing Education
Recertification classes for Kentucky electrical and HVAC professionals will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, beginning at 8 a.m. at ACTC’s Robert Drive Campus. The classes are approved for continuing education by the KY Department of Housing, Building and Construction.
Analysis of NEC Upgrades is approved for Kentucky master electricians and electricians. Instructor Harold Henry will cover updates to the National Electrical Code.
Green Energy & Business Practices is approved for Kentucky Electrical Contractors and HVAC Journeymen and Masters, electrical contractors and plumbers. Instructor Lennis Adkins will cover Green Energy trends, techniques and tips.
