Absentee ballot applications to vote in the November General Election began yesterday and the race is on. In Lawrence County, none of the major offices have competition as incumbents had no competition in the May Primaries.
Looks like the magistrates are the best races as three of the four have candidates on both Republican and Democrat. City races include only a run for mayor of Louisa with just enough (six) council members signed up for the positions.
Veteran school board member Garnett Scaggs has decided not to see re-election and will be replaced by Christopher Williams. In District 1 Madelene Roberts has competition for the position from Jason Marcum
The national and state elections haven’t stirred up much interest here. Multiple time incumbent Hal Rogers faces Prestonsburg attorney Ned Pillarsdorf in the U.S. Representative race. The U.S. senator position is open due the Mitch McConnell’s retirement. Democrat Charles Booker is facing Republican Andy Barr in this contest.
County Coroner Wes Heston decided not to run leaving Wilson Funeral Home worker and Democrat Melissa Moore facing Republican Sam Muncy.
A Constitutional Amendment is included concerning the Governor’s pardoning powers.
