Working hours will be 8 am to 3pm Saturday, May 31

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (May 29, 2025) –On Saturday, May 31, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 12 will replace a cross-drain on KY 40 (Spicy Mountain) at mile point 0.5 in Martin County. This project was originally scheduled last week but was postponed due to weather.

The road will be closed to all through traffic from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. to allow for safe and efficient drain replacement.

Message boards will be placed at the top and bottom of the hill on KY 40 to alert drivers of the upcoming closure and detour information.

This work is essential to improve the area’s long-term drainage and travel conditions.

Drivers are asked to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use alternate routes during the closure window. Emergency vehicles will be accommodated if needed.

All work is scheduled to be completed in one day, weather permitting.

KYTC District 12 appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during this necessary maintenance project.
