LOUISA, Ky. – Sullivan University is offering a 30 percent tuition discount for Lawrence County students who enroll at the Sullivan University Louisa Learning Center, which has recently signed a new lease at its existing location adjacent to the Lawrence County Fiscal Court.
Sullivan’s existing 20 percent tuition remains in place for students in 11 other nearby counties – Pike, Floyd, Magoffin, Greenup, Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Johnson, Martin and Morgan counties in Kentucky and Wayne County in West Virginia.
“The new lease, and this new tuition rate, recognizes the importance Louisa plays in hosting Sullivan University operations in the eastern region of the state,” said David Tudor, Ed.D, vice president of Sullivan University’s Lexington campus. “The lower tuition rate will give more students the chance to receive a higher education without leaving their region.”
The tuition discounts can be used through the online programs offered in Louisa, as well as most campus-based programs offered in Lexington and Louisville with the exclusion of the university’s Doctoral and Physician Assistant programs.
Sullivan has leased space in the Lawrence County Courthouse Annex since December of 2015 for the Louisa Learning Center, which serves as the administrative hub of Sullivan University in Eastern Kentucky. Lawrence County officials approached the university about modifying the agreement earlier this year.
“The county needed to move some of their services over into a portion of the building leased by Sullivan, but that currently was not being utilized by us,” Tudor said. “Both the Lawrence County Fiscal Court and Sullivan University decided that it was in the best interest of both parties, and the people of the region, for the university to remain in this central location that was easily accessible to residents of Louisa and the County.”
The tuition discount has proven to be immensely popular with students. During the spring term of 2021, all 45 students enrolled through Louisa received the area discount.
The university is exploring the possibility of offering a medical assisting program out of the Louisa Learning Center in the months ahead.
“We also continue to identify opportunities for partnership with high schools in the region so that those who are interested in obtaining a degree close to home will have that chance,” Tudor said.
Residents and prospective students are invited to visit the Sullivan University Learning Center -Louisa, which is located at 122 S. Main Cross Street. For more information, please call 606-826-2971 or visit www.Sullivan.edu.
