KYTC District 12 Urges Caution Due to Flash Freeze Risk and Traffic Impacts from Recent Flooding

Wet roadways combined with freezing conditions could result in hazardous driving conditions tomorrow morning

Pikeville, KY (April 7, 2025)— The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 12 is alerting motorists to hazardous driving conditions throughout the district, as recent rainfall has left roads saturated and vulnerable to flash freezing due to dropping temperatures overnight. The combination of standing water, saturated ground, and the possibility of freezing temperatures tonight may lead to dangerous conditions, including black ice and hydroplaning, especially in areas with reduced or impacted travel from recent flooding.
