Lawrence Co. goes 1-3 against Grade A competition in East Tennessee Coaches Classic

Knoxville, TN. — The Lawrence Co. Baseball team went 1-3 in the East Tennessee Coaches Association Classic on Spring Break.

2025 Bulldog Seniors 

Logan Whisenant, Tygar Cavins, Eli Fletcher, Colin Howard, Cam Perkins 

Hamilton Southeastern ( IN ) 8 Lawrence Co. 2 

In the final game of the trip on Friday afternoon at Anderson County high school the Royals scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a close game. The school from Fishers, Indiana has 3,500 students. 

Gray Derifield went 3-3 with a run scored, Braxton Davis had a two RBI double in the sixth, Colin Howard singled and Tygar Cavins scored a run. 

Eli Fletcher went four and 2/3 innings, struck out eight and allowed two earned runs. 

Halls ( TN ) 5 Lawrence Co. 3 

In the second game on Thursday night the Dawgs lost another close game. 

Colin Howard hit a solo home run, Logan Whisenant had two hits and scored a run, Tygar Cavins had two hits, Boedy Maynard singled and drove in a run, Eli Fletcher singled and CJ Whitt scored a run. 

Braxton Davis went four and 1/3 innings, allowing four hits, two earned runs and struck out two. 

Lawrence Co. 14 Fulton ( TN ) 5 

In the first game on Thursday Colin Howard went 3-4 with two home runs, drove in five runs and scored three runs.

Gray Derifield went 5-5 with six stolen bases, four runs scored and one RBI.

Eli Fletcher had three hits including a home run and a double, two RBI’s and two runs scored, Brady Caudill had two hits including a double and drove in two runs, Tygar Cavins and Cam Perkins had two hits, one RBI and one run scored apiece, Logan Whisenant singled and drove in a run, CJ Whitt and Ethan Queen scored a run each. 

Whisenant picked up the win going five innings, allowed one earned run, gave up eight hits and struck out two Falcons. 

2025 Bulldog Juniors 

Brayden Queen, Boedy Maynard, Owen Pack, Steven Hall, Braxton Davis 

Knoxville Catholic ( TN ) 3 Lawrence Co. 1 

The Dawgs opened up Spring Break against a very good Irish team on their home field and got very good pitching from Boedy Maynard but didn’t get enough offense outside of Eli Fletcher who had three hits including a home run. 

Maynard only allowed two hits and one earned run while striking out four hitters. Brady Caudill had the other Bulldog hit. 

The Bulldogs ( 5-6 ) will return to action on Monday versus Letcher Co. Central ( 6-3 ) in the Class 2A Section 8 Tournament at Stonecrest.

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… Not satisfied with 1-3 on the trip. However we played some high level teams and had our chances in late game situations to win all 3 of those games.” 

“ Our mindset is to win a region championship and in order to do that we have to face teams that are going to expose our weaknesses so hopefully we can sure those up along the way. I believe it’ll prove out that we got better this week.”
