Why is it no one is ever allowed to visit the animal shelter? One can call and someone there answers, but you are not allowed to visit the shelter—EVER!!!
Something wrong with that!! I’ll never donate until they open the gate and the building to the public regularly.
Why is it people always want to start something about the animal shelter like it is shady? For Pete Sake, these people get paid little to nothing for a pretty thankless job and they see so much heart ache. They extend themselves out to help the animals, many of whom have been abused and or abandoned and are in sad shape. They care for them and show them love and compassion, only to see more come in. I couldn’t do it and I am so appreciative for those who can and do. Please, before you start throwing anymore shade spend a week in their shoes – I am sure if you go there during normal working hours they would let you visit. Just out of curiosity what are you planning to do during your “visit” are you just trying to snoop to critize more, do you want to adopt an animal or do you want to volunteer? I don’t know many people who just “visit” without a purpose – please share we may want to visit where you work or spend a lot of time.
Yes, I did visit during normal working hours in the week. The purpose to my visit was to donate a bunch of dog and cat food, along with some toys for each that we just purchased. We went there kind of early and the gate was shut. So, we decided to go do some other errands and come back a few hours later–still locked!!! We called the shelter, someone answered and said they were there at the shelter and to just leave the donations at the gate and they would come out to get it later. Our whole intention was to donate the items, see the animals and give them some attention and then be on our way. As far as we knew, there may not have been any animals there!!!! So, before you complain anymore, please quit thinking that people are “nosey” and some are truly trying to help some.
I used to work there and the gate always had to be open no matter what , I had to take in dogs no matter how full we were and when people showed up to see the dogs or cats I had to stop doing whatever I was and assist them. Maybe people would just like to see the dogs and cats maybe to adopt but now most of their dogs do not get adopted to the public I was told they go on transport to other rescues.
The Open Arms Animal Shelter would like to apologize to the individual or individuals who wanted to bring a donation to the shelter and see the animals. Shelter hours to the public are 10 to 2 Monday through Friday. There are times when we are late in opening up due to the shelter cleaning not being completed yet. Or if we have an outbreak of an illness and the shelter has to be closed until the animals have recovered.
We rely greatly on community donations and support. Donations are the reason we can operate and stay open. Again we apologize that these circumstances occurred and hope that people will come back out to the shelter and continue to support us.
