JOHNSON COUNTY, KY MAN ARRESTED, CHARGED, REMAINS JAILED AFTER FIRING GUN ACROSS ROADWAY FROM NEARBY DEPUTY
AFTER FLEEING ON FOOT, SUSPECT LATER FOUND IN A SLEEPING BAG UNDER HIS HOUSE, LEADING TO BRIEF TENSE STANDOFF

ANDREW ALAN PARSONS, 30, OF HAGERHILL, KENTUCKY. (MUGSHOT TAKEN AFTER HIS ARREST ON AUGUST 18, 2024).
When he arrived on the scene, deputyCollin said he saw Andrew Allen Parsons, 30, “take off into his residence.” deputy Collins spoke with Andrew Parsons’ brother, who told deputy Collins that Andrew Parsons was “not shooting recently.”
Deputy Collins wrote in the report that he went across the road to talk to the original caller. Deputy Collins further wrote that, “while outside of my vehicle and speaking with the male, I observed (Parsons) come out of the residence with something in his right hand.” Andrew Parsons made eye contact with deputy Collins, the arrest report said, and “then waved his hand around and fired one single shot from the firearm.”
Andrew Parsons was “behind tree limbs” when the shot was fired, and deputy Collins was “unsure which direction he fired in,” deputy Collins said in the report. Andrew Parsons “immediately took off down Middle Fork towards KY. route 825,” and deputy Collins yelled for him to stop, but he did not comply, the arrest report said.
“Myself and the original caller took cover behind his house, and I called into Paintsville E-911 the situation and I proceeded to get into my vehicle and head down towards Middle Fork in an attempt to locate the subject,” deputy Collins wrote in the arrest report.
Multiple units from the sheriff’s office, Kentucky State Police and the Paintsville Police Department also attempted to search the area for Andrew Parsons, the arrest report said.
At approximately 4:00 P.M., the arrest report said, Paintsville E-911 got a call from the area stating that they saw Andrew Parsons “coming up the hillside behind his house.”
“All of the units arrived back to the household and made a search of the area,” the arrest report said, adding that “Johnson County Sheriff Office deputy Jeffery Castle searched under the house and located a black sleeping bag that seemed to be occupied by someone. Deputy Castle advised multiple times to exit the sleeping bag with hands up. The above subject finally complied and exited from under the house and was placed under arrest.”
Deputy Nathan Collins wrote in the report he received multiple security camera videos from the house across from Parsons’ residence. In the videos, deputy Collins wrote in the arrest report that, “you can observe the male shooting in multiple directions” and that in “any direction that he shot he would have been aiming” at a different residence, deputy Collins wrote in the arrest report.
In another video, deputy Collins stated, “you can clearly hear” a gunshot and see Andrew Parsons walking down the road after he came out of his home and fired a shot. Deputy Collins said he located a 9mm shell laying in the area where Parsons fired the gun. Andrew Parsons said he left the pistol in a tent in an old graveyard over the hill, deputy Collins wrote in the arrest report.
Johnson County Sheriff Scott Hazlette located the firearm, which was identified as a Taurus G3c 9mm pistol, the report said.
Andrew Alan Parsons was arrested and charged with WANTON ENDANGERMENT-1ST DEGREE-POLICE OFFICER FLEEING OR EVADING POLICE, 3RD DEGREE DISORDERLY CONDUCT, 2ND DEGREE RESISTING ARREST.
Andrew Parsons was taken to and was lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center. in Paintsville, where he is currently being held on a $100,025 full cash bond only; and he had his initial arraignment in Johnson County District Court on Wednesday, November 6, at 11:00 A.M.
