Logan, W. Va. — The Tolsia youth football league came up just short in both championship games on Sunday at Willis-Nesbit Stadium.

Mingo 14 Tolsia 0 ( B-Team ) 

In the first game of championship Sunday the Miners captured the title over the Rebels. 

 

Easton Hunt connected with 14 yard TD pass and 2 point pass good 2:35 1st q 

 

 

The Miners were driving in the second quarter before Ty Horn intercepted a pass to keep the score 8-0 Mingo at halftime. 

 

 

After scoreless third period the Miners put the game away when Sheppard went around the corner for a 34 yard touchdown with 5:11 to go in the ballgame. 

 

 

Chapmanville 18 Tolsia 16 ( A-Team ) 

In the final game of the day the Tigers avenged a regular season loss and held on to beat the Rebels. 

 

After falling on the opening kickoff the Tigers opened up the scoring with a 5 yard touchdown with 5:50 to go in the first quarter. 

 

 

On the first play for Tolsia offensively the snap sailed over the QB’s head and Chapmanville recovered and went down and scored to make it 12-0 with 3:28 to go in the first quarter. 

 

 

Chapmanville made it 18-0 with 2:56 left in the second quarter on a quarterback sneak. 

 

 

Tolsia finally got some offense going and Eli Fitch hit Mason Stumbo who made a nice catch for 15 yard touchdown and also added the point conversion with 36.3 seconds left in the first half. 

 

 

After a scoreless third period the Tigers were marching down the field trying to close out the game when Mason Stumbo took the ball away from the running back and went 78 yards the other way for a touchdown and then added the two point conversion and the Rebels trailed 18-16 with 4:44 left the game. 

 

 

After forcing a turnover on downs the Rebels got the ball back around the 40 yard line with 2:45 left but a pass on fourth down fell incomplete and the Rebels come back bid fell just short.

This was the first year in the Southern West Virginia Midget League for Tolsia and it was an outstanding season with two out of three teams playing for a championship.
