One man is dead and another man was arrested after a crash in Bath County on Wednesday, September 24.
Kentucky State Police Post 8 in Morehead, KY., in Rowan County, stated that they received a call for assistance from Bath County emergency dispatch around 5:17 P.M., Wednesday evening about a deadly crash.
KSP troopers responded to Interstate 64 around mile marker 124 in Bath County.
According to KSP’s investigation, it was determined that a man operating a tow truck was loading up a vehicle onto a rollback when he was struck by a commercial vehicle traveling westbound.
The Bath County Coroner identified the man as Troy Lee Caldwell, 54, of Morehead, KY.
KSP arrested the driver, who was identified as Shodmon Yuldashev, 29, of Brooklyn, New York, with Tampering with Physical Evidence.
According to his arrest citation, troopers found a tablet on the dashboard and believed Shodmon Yuldashev was actively watching YouTube videos at the time of the crash. KSP says he tried to power it off and hide it during the inspection.
Shodmon Yuldashev was transported to and lodged in the Rowan County Detention Center in Morehead. Shodmon Yuldashev has since posted his bond and has been released from the RCDC.
Kentucky State Police were assisted on scene by Bath County Sheriff’s Office, Bath County Coroner’s Office, Bath County EMS, and Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. Funeral services for Troy Lee Caldwell were held at 2:00 P.M., on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Joe Riley and Brother Robert Kidd officiating. Burial of Troy Lee Caldwell followed in Brown Cemetery.
TROY CALDWELL OBITUARY
Troy Lee Caldwell, age 54, of Castle Drive, Morehead, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2024, from injuries sustained on I-64 in Bath County.
Born May 24, 1970, in Troy, Ohio, he is the son of Gilbert Caldwell of Clearfield and the late Nancy Jean Muse Caldwell, who preceded him in death on February 6, 2020. Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Sammantha Caldwell.
In addition to his father, Troy is survived by his wife, Robin Adams Caldwell, whom he married February 8, 2020; son, Troy Lee Caldwell, Jr. of Fleming County; two daughters, Desiree Lykins and husband Chris of Hillsboro and Lakyn Bush and husband Isiah of Morehead; grandchildren, Raylee Michelle “Peanut” Lykins, Marilyn Caldwell, Isabella Caldwell, Elizabeth Gossett, Thora Caldwell, Lagtha Caldwell, Rayland Bush, Annalia Bush, Asher Bush, and Amareigh Bush.
Other survivors include two brothers, Kevin Caldwell of Morehead and Travis Caldwell of Clearfield; one sister, Heather Caldwell of Clearfield; his best friend, Jerry Cantrell of Morehead; several nieces and nephews; other extended family; and a multitude of friends.
Troy was a 1989 graduate of Rowan County Senior High School. He was a towing operator for more than 30 years. He was currently working for Jerry’s Towing & Roadside Assistance where he had been the last five years. Troy previously worked many years at Eddie’s Shell.
He loved to work and enjoyed collecting hot wheels and baseball cards, woodworking, and spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
