Kentucky State Police Investigates Fatal in Whitley County Involving Mo-Ped

Kentucky State Police Investigates Fatal in Whitley County

CORBIN, Ky. (August 04, 2024) – The Kentucky State Police, London Post was notified by Whitley County 911 at approximately 11:18 PM of an injury accident involving two vehicles on interstate I-75. The Corbin City Police was on scene and advised the accident was serious physical injury accident and requested the Kentucky State Police. The accident resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary information indicated both units were traveling North on Interstate I-75. Around the 26-mile marker North Bound a 2011 Kia Sportage operated by Michael J. Stout 43 years old of Indiana struck a 49.6cc Rogue Scoot star moped. The moped was occupied by Darius L. Wade 31 years old of Lexington as well as a 10-year-old juvenile. Both Mr. Wade and the juvenile were transported to the hospital via ambulance to Babtist Regional hospital in Corbin, both individuals were then flown by air evac to University of Kentucky hospital. At the UK hospital, the 10-year-old female succumbed to her injuries sustained from the collision and was pronounced deceased by the Fayette County Corners Office.

Alcohol is a suspect contributing factor in this accident.

Trooper Arron Jones is continuing the investigation. KSP was assisted by Corbin PD and Corbin City Fire Department and Air Evac and the Fayette County Corners Office.
