LAWRENCE CO. NATIVE YVONNE JORDAN TO BE ADDED ON COUNTRY MUSIC HWY SIGN…YVONNE JORDAN COMMENTS TO LAZER REPORTER ABOUT HER TIME IN LAWRENCE COUNTY AND HER CAREER ‘ON THE ROAD

At last month’s LC Fiscal Court Regular Monthly Meeting, Yvonne Jordan (Abdon) was added to the Country Music Highway sign on US 23 by unanimous vote of the court. The Kentucky Road Transportation Department Division of Signing and Traffic Operations director Tim Tharpe said the process involves the state legislature since such an addition to a state sign requires legislative action.

Lawrence Co. Tourism director Wes Kingsmore and Deputy judge Vice Doty said everything is done on the county’s end and it is up to the legislature and Transportation Dept. as to when the sign is completed.

Doty said State Senator Phillip Wheeler has added the item to a bill which is subject to a vote during this session. Doty also said there is certain criteria to having a name added to a state road sign to make sure they are not cluttered.

YVONNE JORDAN COMMENTS TO LAZER REPORTER ABOUT HER TIME IN LAWRENCE COUNTY AND HER CAREER ‘ON THE ROAD

◦ When I was 6 years old we moved from Columbus Ohio to Lawrence County, Kentucky. I felt like I was let out of jail! lol No more chain link fences. No flat land. I was so happy we had moved where my grandparents lived and my aunts and uncles and my best friends my first cousins.

◦ As long as I can remember I sang with my daddy. He had a great voice and played guitar. We would go to friends’ and family’s houses and he would take his guitar with us we sang.

◦ The whole family was talented on my daddy’s side so when I was 8 years old they started a band. We made our debut at The Fourth of July celebration in Louisa beside the old Courthouse.

◦ It was Daddy, Tom Jordan, my uncle Ronnie Jordan, My Uncle Richard Jordan and daddy’s talented friend Billy Lee Wurts.

◦ We had a great reception from the audience so started playing music all over Lawrence County and the whole tri-state area.

◦ My favorite part of being raised in Lawrence County is the beauty of the land. Mommy let us climb the hills anytime except for the hot summer, because of snakes.

◦ I wanted to climb every hill, explore every hollow and Wade in every branch and I did up Donathon.
