LOUISA, Ky. — In what was a limited contestant general election Lawrence County voters came out in pretty good numbers to vote in mostly incumbents and those without opposition. Judge Executive Rick Blackburn pulled off an upset of longtime judge Phil Carter in the Primary, with candidate Eddie Preston playing a big role in the defeat, but with no Democrat in the race the job was Blackburn’s.
Blackburn, a current magistrate, will be leading a brand new fiscal court with Josh Trout, Allan Scaggs, Brian Jordan and Todd Moran, all of whom won their magistrate districts with strong majorities and look to be a positive impact on the court which has been stagnant for the past eight years with job creation and road repair below water.

The only other countywide race was won easily by Sam Muncy, a newcomer to county politics as Coroner who beat Wilson Funeral Home employee Melissa Moore for the job.
Although he has no experience, Muncy will be trained by the state to perform all duties of the job which has no qualifications except being a valid voter. Many feel a medical background should be required but the law intends it to be elective and objective. In fact, it does not allow the Coroner to be a funeral home employee although many rural counties in Ky have had to use funeral home facilities, including Lawrence.

We are expecting thank you messages from the candidates soon.
