A memorial “Cruise In” was held in memory of John Burton, Jr. on Saturday, October 31st at Citizen’s Bank. This event was sponsored by the Louisa Rotary Club, Lawrence County Farm Bureau and Citizen’s Bank. John was a long time member of Rotary and served as past President. He was also a member of the Lawrence County Farm Bureau board for 50 years.

He was President and CEO of People’s Security Bank, which is now Citizens Bank. John was a dedicated community leader and this event was held to honor his memory. Over 26 cars and trucks were on display, plus John’s 1966 GTO hardtop, 1967 GTO convertible and his 1969GTO Judge. The 69 “Judge” was a popular one with all those attending.

It was a beautiful fall Saturday with everyone socializing while viewing the cars. Mayor Harold Slone presented John’s wife, Joyce Burton, with a framed proclamation from the city. There was no entry fee but items for the backpack program at Blaine School were accepted as well as cash donations for this program.

Past Rotary President Chris Jobe started planning this event during his presidency and continued working hard to organize and bring it to fruition. Many thanks to Chris and all who helped make this wonderful event a success.
