Lawrence County Schools Meet and Beat State Averages in New State Scores; Sets Goal for District-Wide Green Status

LOUISA, KY — The Kentucky Department of Education released its official school accountability performance scores today, showing that Lawrence County Schools are moving forward and competing strongly across the state.

How the Kentucky School Color System Works

The state uses a color-coded rating system to evaluate public schools each year based on overall performance compared to state benchmarks.  These color codes are based on overall score for each school on the Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA), as well as postsecondary readiness and graduation rates (for high schools).

On the 2025-2026 state assessment results (KSA), every single assessed school in Lawrence County achieved a yellow or green rating, with no LC school scoring red or orange.

Meeting or exceeding the state average at all schools was a major district goal. Today’s release of state data confirms that all Lawrence County schools are now performing at or above the Kentucky state average. When compared across the 15th and 16th regions, Lawrence County Schools also rank solidly alongside neighboring districts.

School-by-School Performance Breakdown

Each school across Lawrence County demonstrated strong performance and continuous growth relative to state standards:

  • Blaine
    • The elementary level at BES earned a yellow overall rating, performing at KY state average and showing growth in all assessed areas.
    • The middle school level at BES earned a green overall rating, performing above the state average.
  • Fallsburg
    • The elementary level at FES earned a green overall rating, performing above KY state average and showing growth in all assessed areas.
    • The middle school level at FES earned a green overall rating, performing above the state average.
  • Louisa East Elementary School:
    • The East earned a yellow overall rating, performing at KY state average in assessed subjects.
  • Louisa Middle School:
    • LMS earned a yellow overall rating, performing at KY state average.
  • Lawrence County High School:
    • LCHS earned a green overall rating, performing above state average for KY high schools.
  • ***Louisa West —since KSA begins at 3rd grade the West does not receive KSA scores.

Building on Progress

Today’s official state results show clear proof of steady, continuous progress across Lawrence County.”State test scores do not tell the whole story, and a single test is not everything,” said Superintendent Katie Webb. “However, these scores are a tool that helps us look closely at how effectively our schools are serving our kids academically. Meeting and exceeding state averages across our campuses was a goal we set together, and achieving yellow and green ratings across the board is certainly a positive. But this is one goal met, not the finish line. Our new goal is for every single school in our district to achieve blue status, or green at a minimum (meaning our schools consistently perform above the state average).”

Student Voices: School Climate and Safety Survey

In addition to academic testing, state reports also measure the quality of school life through the annual Quality of School Climate and Safety Survey. This is an anonymous survey that students complete on their own at the end of state testing. Because responses are completely confidential, students can speak freely about how safe they feel at school and how well school leaders listen and resolve issues.

In this year’s survey, all 5 assessed Lawrence County schools scored blue regarding school safety and climate, significantly exceeding state averages across the district in this area.

“Our main job every single day is educating children, keeping them safe, and helping them grow into successful adults,” added Superintendent Webb. “Real learning happens in our classrooms every day through structured lessons, caring adults, and high expectations. The feedback directly from our students shows that we are building a good culture where respect, safety, and academic success go hand-in-hand. Our schools are not perfect, because humans are not perfect, but our kids consistently reported on this survey that they see our goals are to keep them safe and cared for.”

In the coming days LC staff will continue reviewing details of state assessment results, and use this work to build on this momentum and continue raising standards and performance for the 26-27 school year.
