Paulette M. Simpson, born on the 7th of September 1949 in Gilbert, West Virginia, was a beacon of strength, love, and compassion. She was a woman of faith, a devoted member of the Louisa Church of God, and lived out the teachings of Proverbs 31:25-26, “Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” Her life was a testament to these words, embodying strength, dignity, and kindness in her daily walk.
She was known as Paulette to her parents and siblings. She was known as Sissy Paulette to her first nieces and nephews and always cherished them as if they were her own kids. She was Paulette to her husband, and Aunt Paulette to another generation of nieces and nephews. She was Mommy to Sarah and Graham. She was Sister Paulette to her Louisa Church of God family. Many friends and family affectionately called her Pauletta.
Paulette had many gifts that she naturally shared with everyone in her life. She was a great cook and was well-known for her homemade desserts and home-canned green beans. She had no secret recipes or ingredients; in fact, she typed, printed, and kept copies of her most famous dishes to give to anyone who asked. She was a singer and natural alto from her youth and learned to harmonize by listening to her favorite records over and over when she was young. She developed a talent for harmonizing to any song. She sang alto at church for many years and often sang to comfort other families during seasons of loss. She was a gifted administrator and organizer, and she was the most trustworthy, by-the-book, hard worker you could find. She used this gift for many years as a bank teller at the Bank of Blaine and at Peoples Security Bank in Louisa, as a special education clerk for the Lawrence County Board of Education, and as treasurer for the Louisa Church of God and treasurer for the Lawrence County Band Boosters.
More than anything though, Paulette had a gift for making anyone feel at home wherever you were. She was always a friendly, welcoming face ready to offer a hug, give a warm smile, a big laugh, some wise advice, and to tell you a story about a time where she can absolutely relate to whatever you were going through. Her warmth, kindness, generosity, and love she showed to everyone is the fruit of a life surrendered to Jesus and a legacy that will last into the lifetime to come.
Her favorite way to spend her time was at home with her husband, Charles, and with her children. Second to that, she enjoyed a road trip to eat at her favorite restaurants, Texas Roadhouse or Jim’s Steak and Spaghetti, and to get some black raspberry ice cream at Austin’s Homemade Ice Cream.
Paulette is survived by her husband of over 41 years Charles; her children, Sarah and Graham; her brothers, Danny (Frances) Saul, Ronnie Saul, and Richard Saul; her sister, Christina (Morris) Howard; and her sister-in-law, Cathy Simpson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Kathleen Saul, and her brother, James Saul.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 15th, 2026, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Louisa Church of God. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 16th, at 11:00 AM at the Louisa Church of God. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens.
