How about some tidbits at the end of Primary election season?
- When you consider the number of candidates is much smaller than in past years with most incumbents this time with no opposition due to the collapse of the Democrat party in the state and area. Some of them have had no competition in either the Primary or General election in the last 20 years. Chris Jobe, Chris Rose, Johnny Osborne, Roger Jordan, Cliff West drew no competitors and were not listed in our Candidates Speak survey. Whatever the reason is we had four candidates in District 2 magistrate who did not respond. Wonder why?
- I’ve received a lot of juicy comments that couldn’t be posted because they did not put their name on them. According to a lot of these nameless commenters and the ones posted it seems the county roads and taxes are the biggest issues as usual but there seems to be a concerted effort to slam incumbent judge Phil Carter for the lack of progress in the past eight years, personal conflicts, and handling of property taxes.
- The sheriff’s race has been relatively quiet with both Mark Wheeler and incumbent Chuck Jackson who both have extensive experience and talent, running. With Wheeler being gone to Boyd County, where he worked his way up to detective, it will be hard to regain his momentum he had when Jackson beat him in a good race in the General election where Wheeler was running as a Democrat four years ago.
- Eddie Preston seems to be picking up steam in the judge’s race although Rick Blackburn is also doing a lot of work and has done media in the past month. Carter has the advantage as the incumbent with a large family and an administration and local workforce assumed to stick with him.
- Coroner is an important position but doesn’t pay much so we have a choice of Sam Muncy and Melissa Moore, neither of which has any experience or health related training. Moore is a Democrat. Sadly, many of Kentucky’s 120 counties have the same situation and some legislators believe the state should require training for the positions and reasonable salary. Usually the Coroner’s office is located at the funeral home he/she chooses giving that business an advantage.
- Hal Rogers will lead the GOP ticket. The 88 year old veteran politician has a slew of challengers, none of which can beat Rogers. Ned Pillarsdorf will have a tough time this Fall running as a Democrat in our Trump loving region.
- Magistrates races have the potential of getting hot as all four of the current group have two terms under their belt. But this year two of them won’t be on the ballot — John Scaggs chose not to run and Rick Blackburn is running for judge. The two incumbents running, Dave Pinson and Mouse Halcomb have competition for their seats in the Primary but no Democrats have filed so there won’t be a General Election for any of them. However it goes Josh Trout or Mouse will face Democrat George Howell in the General.
- Constables who will be serving a new four year term are Woody Thomas, Dist. 4, Sonny Mynhier, Dist 2, and Jeff McCarty Dist. 3. Nobody signed up from either party to run in Dist. 1.
Expression Prep Academy
Expression Prep Academy out of Louisville has taken over what has been known as The Millard School in Louisa. The ARC company had owned and run the school before but ARC CEO Tim Robinson has been experiencing a deflation of ARC although some facilities are open in other areas. ARC had employed an estimated 500 employees in the place where he started the business here.
The Millard School has drawn praise from the local population but the new facility may be even better.

I haven’t received a formal press release from Expression Prep but contacted them this week in search of more info about the operation. Hope I get something soon with registration starting for next year, already started.
Looks like Louisa is a mixed bag economically. Closures of two big stores, Sav a Lot and Walgreens in the past two years has been devastating and add that to the ARC collapse and THE LOCAL ECONOMY seems to be heading in the wrong direction.
City Council to meet on election day
The regular scheduled council meeting for the City of Louisa scheduled for Tuesday May 12th has been rescheduled for Tuesday May 19th at 6pm at Louisa City Hall. Agendas will be sent to you on May 18th.
Thank You
