Louisa, Ky. — Lawrence County will be competing in the Kentucky USA Wrestling Youth and Middle school State Championship this weekend at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville.

The squad consist of 26 youth and 3 middle schoolers that represent five different schools in Lawrence County. Fallsburg, Louisa West, Louisa East, Louisa Middle and Millard.

They will be leaving the High school at noon on Friday with a police and fire truck escort through town and straight to Louisville.
They finished Region 6 Runner-up
Appalachian Wrestling Conference Champions

Oaklyn Diamond became the first official Girls State Champion in Lawrence County and the first girl to finish and be crowned State Champion in Ky in the first ever sanctioned Girls Youth and Middle School State Tournament. Winning the 6u 70lb class. She also qualified for this weekends coed tournament with a 3rd place finish at Regionals.

8th grader Gavin Diamond recorded his 100th middle school victory during the Regional tournament becoming the first to reach the achievement and setting the record for wins. And a 6th place finish.
8th grader Bentley Fleming became the first in the program to reach the regional finals.
8th grader Jace Fletcher finished 4th giving our program 3 wrestlers headed to Louisville for State.

High School post season is also this weekend with Regionals being held at Pike Central on Saturday KHSAA Region 8 Tournament.
They brought on Coach Jason Damron to lead the youth this season and teach more in depth techniques. JD had a stellar career at Sheldon Clark High School and help start the Martin County Youth Program winning 3 consecutive team state titles before stepping down because of work. He was able to find the time this year and help get us where we need to be.
