LOVELY, Ky. — A Martin County man is facing a felony charge, after being accused of threatening social workers.

James Charles, 60, of Lovely, was arrested last Wednesday, after the Department for Community Based Services filed a report with Kentucky State Police about a call he made to their office.

The police report does not indicate what the first sign of trouble was, but notes that the person who answered the phone told Charles she would let him speak to someone else in the office, since he didn’t like her. He allegedly responded that he didn’t like anyone in the office and said he would drop a bomb on Frankfort, if he could.

When the worker told Charles he couldn’t make threats like that, he reportedly responded that he didn’t have a bomb and was just expressing his opinion. The police report goes on to say Charles was hostile and used profanity throughout the call.

Charles was located at his home and arrested on a charge of first-degree terroristic threatening, a felony punishable by 5-to-10 years in prison. He was released a short time later on an unsecured bond and ordered to have no further contact with the office.
