MARTIN COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) – A three-year-old child died after drowning in Martin County.

The incident happened in the South Wolf Creek area on Wednesday.

Deputies with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office told WYMT the child had gained access to a swimming pool.

Officials said life-saving measures were attempted by family members as well as EMS before the child was taken to Highlands ARH.

According to Martin County Chief Deputy Chris Kidd, medical staff at Highlands ARH worked tirelessly to resuscitate the child but the efforts were unsuccessful.

“We want to remember the family in our thoughts and prayers, as well as the first responders. These types of calls never get any easier and are truly traumatic for all involved,” Kidd said.
