FRANKFORT, Ky. (Nov. 13, 2018) – Kentucky’s county boards of elections have reported their official vote totals for the Nov. 6 General Election to Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes. The deadline was Friday at noon.
96th District State Representative Jill York is one of six candidates in such races in the state where a request for a recanvass was filed. Hinkle won the Nov. 6 contest by a scant 5 votes against York in the November election
A York spokesperson said one of the reasons York asked for the recanvass, which requires a second “count’ of the ballots including absentees, is that Hinkle’s husband, Lafe, is Democrat chairman in Lawrence County and sits on the election board and has refused to step down from the post.
The election board is responsible for counting absentee ballots on the day of election and also conducts the recanvass.
Lafe Hinkle could not be reached for comment this afternoon.
“The reporting of counties’ official vote totals is the first of several steps to close out the General Election at the state level,” said Grimes, Kentucky’s chief election official. “I want to thank all of our county boards of elections, and especially the precinct election officials across the Commonwealth, who have helped us deliver another successful General Election.”
The deadline to request a recanvass in any race was Nov. 13 at 4 p.m. local time. County boards of elections involved in conducting the recanvass will meet Thursday, Nov. 15 at 9 a.m. local time to conduct the process, which is a check of vote totals from each voting machine and absentee ballots. Kentucky law requires county boards of elections to contact candidates involved in the recanvass to inform them of the time and place of the recanvass.
Recanvasses will be conducted in the following races for which Grimes has received requests:
State Representative, District 13 (Daviess County)
State Representative, District 27 (Hardin and Meade Counties)
State Representative, District 81 (Madison County)
State Representative, District 88 (Fayette County)
State Representative, District 91 (Breathitt, Estill, Lee, Madison and Owsley Counties)
State Representative, District 96 (Carter and Lawrence Counties)
Commonwealth’s Attorney, 37th Judicial Circuit (Carter, Elliott and Morgan Counties)
The State Board of Elections will meet Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. ET to certify and make official the results of the General Election and issue certificates of election to winners.

Jill Malone, Malone is the name you should have been using all along in your elected position. Everyone knows why you didn’t. It was because MOST of the time your vote didn’t count on anything because you were one of the last ones to vote. This is politics at its best. You are acting like Hillary. Give it up and go home. You got beat fair and square.
Oh shut up! If Kathy had lost by 5 votes you’d be crying like a baby.
But she didn’t
Hillary did win the popular vote by more than 3,000,000 votes
Good for Jill York!!! It should be an automatic recount when only a few votes separate the candidates. By doing this it’s assured that everyone’s vote was counted.
I want John to know , he may have been a smart cookie , but he crumbled, yep, fair and square he was maybe the sharpest tack in the box, but evidently , was dropped on his … noggin , opps, maybe John, you should do some good and ask Representative. Jill to forgive you, I pray you do. Pin pointing , anyone , by name , to say you should have use your Malone name … , many married women use and keep their maiden name, your thinking , is saturated with, not being so intelligence. , big guy. Wash your mouth out with dawn dishing liquid, rinse real well , several times, and ask for forgiveness. Prayer changes things, we are to forgive and live according to God’s laws /commandments.
Prayers . . . for. John
