5TH IN A SERIES…
The fifth in our series about taxing districts in Lawrence County, their budgets and payroll is the Lawrence co. BOE. The Lawrence Co. Fiscal Court, The City of Louisa, the Lawrence Co. Library, and the Lawrence Co. Extension Office have already sent in the information and it has been posted for the benefit of local taxpayers.
This week we move to the largest beneficiary of local tax dollars, the Lawrence County Board of Education which gets over 50% of the funds. Supt. Dr. Rob Fletcher is in the middle of the pandemic exercises to attempt to reopen schools on August 26.
State funding for this year will not depend on the SEEK formula that has been used in the past to account for per pupil spending which is tied to attendance figures. The 20-21 budget will be based on funding from the previous year.
Salaries of ALL BOE employees submitted exactly as shown below:

anyone who says teachers are under paid obviously didn’t see this list, some on here are receiving 3&4 salaries and most on here are making over 50k some more than 90k all for only 9 months not a full year. definitely time for some pay cuts
The teachers that are making over $50,000 have been there awhile and those that are listed more than once are being paid for additional jobs that they perform. They are required to have Masters degrees but many of them have education well past a Masters degree. It is so perplexing to me that people want to criticize a teachers pay which requires a bachelors and masters degree but a coal miner which requires NO education but gets paid much more than a teacher is considered worthy????? Have any of you complainers spent 8 hours a day with a class of 26-30 kids per hour? These teachers have to deal with kids who are neglected and abused at home, kids who have learning disabilities, kids whose parents have issues that impact their children in ways you can never imagine and they balance that with dealing with paying for school supplies out of their own pockets…..You think a teachers job is over at 3 pm? That shows just how little you know about the education system….
You don’t have a clue what you are saying!
1) We only get paid for 10 months of work but our pay is divided up among 12 months
2) This pay is before deductions such as health insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, pension contribution, etc.
3) Some names are listed more than once because they coach or sponsor something and that pay is separate from their regular pay
4) Some names are listed more than once because their salary is paid from different accounts.
The aides an bus drivers get $6000 to $14000.. for an year. you know an I no that’s not enough money to help raised an family’s on….
just like with the extensuon office I don’t understand what benefet this place is either
I guess if you’ve been teaching awhile you get paid more…
You guys are getting a good deal. Wayne County WV are paying 16 people at their board office between 85-90,000/year. Ponder on that.
