Sheriff Rick Thompson stated that a drug suspect was arrested with a large quantity of Methamphetamine.

Sheriff Thompson stated that the Wayne County Sheriff Drug Enforcement Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Westmoreland area.

After making contact with the occupants, the front passenger, Gene Dowdy, refused to step out of the vehicle. While being removed from the vehicle Dowdy began reaching into his pockets and attempted to hide a large ziplock bag containing Methamphetamine.

Dowdy is charged with Conspiracy to Distribute 5 to 50 grams of Methamphetamine, Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine, and Obstructing an Officer. More arrests are pending in this investigation.

Officers with the Kenova and Ceredo Police Departments assisted searching the vehicle.
