Vonnie Jean Pennington, a retired nurse, passed away April 27, 2024.

Vonnie was born March 28, 1935 in Louisville, KY to the late Ambrose Meredith and the late Birdie May Childress. In addition to her parents, Vonnie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, Harold Wilson Pennington and a brother, Leo Meredith.

Vonnie left home at the age of 16 to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. She worked her way through school and earned her nursing degree. Vonnie met many people during her career including Colonel Sanders and Phil Donahue. Through her career, Vonnie also met her husband while student nursing at the old General Hospital in Louisa, KY. Vonnie spent over 40 years serving others until her retirement.

Vonnie also had a passion for gardening. You could always see her working in her yard and tending to her flower beds, which she took great pride in. People would often stop and ask about her gardens due to their beauty.

She was blessed with 3 grandchildren Bruce Scharinger (Chinh), Audrey Thornbury (Brandon) and Nathaniel Dials. She will also be missed by her 9 great grandchildren Daelynn, River, Rayne, Ann Caroline, Jace, Ryder, Jaelyn, Roman and Harlynn. Vonnie is also survived by her loving sister, Juanita Langdon of Leitchfield, KY, along with a host of nieces, nephews, special friends and “Sweet Angels”.
