The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 1 in Hickory, KY., in Graves County, has arrested a Calloway County man, who was a police officer until arrest, for multiple sexual offenses that reportedly occurred in Calloway County and Trigg County.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, KSP Post 1 was contacted by the Murray Police Department (MPD) requesting that the KSP to investigate allegations of sexual abuse against one of their officers that had been brought to their attention that same day.

Through the initial investigation, KSP Post 1 detectives learned that a MPD Detective-Sergeant identified as Justin t. Swope, 43, of Almo, KY., met the victim in his official capacity in 2018 when the victim was 15 years old. The female victim disclosed to KSP detectives details of multiple sexual encounters with Sergeant Swope that occurred when she was a juvenile.

On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, KSP Post 1 detectives and supervisors made contact with Sergeant Swope. Justin Swope was arrested and charged with two (2) counts of: *RAPE, 3RD DEGREE; and one (1) count of: *SODOMY, 3RD DEGREE; in Calloway County, along with two (2) counts of: *RAPE, 3RD DEGREE; and one (1) count of *SODOMY, 3RD DEGREE; in Trigg County.

Justin Swope was transported to and booked in the McCracken County jail in Paducah, KY. He has since posted his bail and has been released from the jail.

The now ex-sergeant Justin Swope has since resigned from the Murray Police Department.

The investigation in the case remains ongoing by KSP Post 1 Detective Sergeant Brian Hill.
