Brain swelling down, but situation is still critical
As of last night (Friday) former LCHS and Alice Lloyd College grad Justin Lee Maynard is still in critical condition in Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee after a 70 foot fall while hiking a week ago today.
Maynard, 26, is an employee of Apalshop and was hiking with friends at Bad Branch Falls in Letcher County when he slipped and fell landing on his feet and shattering both legs and injuring internal organs.
The worst injury was to his head where he fell forward and hit rocks causing a deep gash. He has been in a doctor induced coma since being taken to the med center. One good sign is physicians say the swelling of his brain has gone down considerably.
Justin served in the Peace Corps for two years and was an intern with TheLevisalazer.com just after graduating from Alice Lloyd College. He is the son of Bernice Maynard who is at his bedside.
Prayers from the community are requested from family members and friends.
