Fort Gay, W. Va. — #22 Buffalo ( 4-3 ) prevailed 13-6 in a defensive battle over #10 Tolsia ( 4-3 ) Friday night on Homecoming Night at Wilts Salmons Athletic Field.
The Bison got on the board late in the first half on a 35 yard touchdown pass from Jackson England to Dalton Jones and Cameron Lovejoy tacked on the PAT for a 7-0 lead with 2:10 before Halftime.
Tolsia mounted the best drive of the game that stretched from the third quarter in to the fourth quarter when QB Jesse Muncy found pay dirt from 11 yards out to make it 7-6 with 11:54 left in the game. The Rebels went for two and Muncy scrambled before throwing an incompletion under heavy pressure.
Tolsia forced a punt on the Bison next possession but didn’t move the ball and set up to punt when the snap sailed over Muncy’s head and after he picked up the ball he avoided a couple tacklers before getting the ball off his foot while getting drilled in the process. Initially the referee called roughing the punter but after a meeting they waved off the flag and the Rebels had to settle for a four yard punt.
Buffalo took over at the 43 and marched into the end zone on a England 10 yard keeper but missed the extra point try leaving the score 13-6 with 6:21 left in the game.
The Rebels started their last drive at the 27 and after completing three passes from Muncy to Gavin Meadows they faced a 3rd and 18 at the 40 yard line with just over two minutes left, Muncy completed another pass and while the Rebel receiver was fighting for extra yardage the ball was knocked free and the Bison recovered and eventually ran out the clock to get their first win over Tolsia.
The Rebels had 105 yards of total offense with 57 coming on the ground and 48 through the air.
Jesse Muncy was 5-10 passing with 48 yards and rushed 11 times for 33 yards, Tanner Copley was 0-3 passing and rushed 8 times for 23 yards, Gavin Meadows caught 3 passes for 37 yards and rushed 2 times for 6 yards, Zack Ball had 2 carries for 1 yard, John Wilson had 4 carries for -6 yards, Devin Stull caught 2 passes for 11 yards. Meadows also had a 55 yard kickoff return.
TJ Jackson recovered a fumble on a kickoff, Gavin Meadows recovered a fumble and Blake Sturgill recovered a muffed Buffalo punt.
The Rebels will return to action for Senior night next Friday against Mount View ( 3-4 ) at Wilts Salmons Athletic Field.
