TOLSIA FOOTBALL FALTERS LATE AGAINST #2 SHERMAN

Glenhayes, W. Va. — Class A #2 Sherman ( 6-1 ) pulled away late for a 50-30 victory over Tolsia ( 2-5 ) on Friday night at Wilts Salmons Athletic Field.

The Tide jumped out to a 12-0 lead at the end of one quarter on an Eli Pauley 30 yard touchdown pass to Chase Southern and a 4 yard pass to Colby Atkins.

With 9:49 left in the first half Dakota Blackburn scored from 7 yards out and Roberts Evans added the two point conversion and the Rebels trailed 12-8. 

Sherman made it 20-8 after a Trey Lester 58 yard TD and Pauley to Atkins two point conversion. 

Just a few minutes later Evans raced in from 34 yards out to make it 20-14 Sherman. 

Sherman answered right back with Pauley to Lester 49 yard touchdown to make it 26-14 with 6:58 left on the first half. 

Robert Evans heads toward the end zone for one of his three touchdowns against Sherman. 

With 2:53 left before halftime Evans scooted in from 23 yards out and then added the two point conversion and the Rebels trailed 26-22. 

In the second half Sherman made it 34-22 on a Pauley to Atkins 29 yard touchdown and the two hooked up for the two point conversion as well. 

Evans scored his third touchdown of the game this time a 7 yarder and also added the two conversion and Tolsia trailed 34-30 with 2:46 left in the third quarter. 

After forcing a Tide punt Tolsia was driving to take the lead in Sherman territory but fumbled. 

Sherman made the Rebels pay with 16 unanswered points to put the game away. 

Robert Evans had 210 yards on 27 carries, Dakota Blackburn 74 yards on 15 carries, Peyton Rice 1 carry for 11 yards and Dylan Stroud 2 carries for 6 yards.

Evans was 2-5 passing for 12 yards and Blackburn was 1-3 for 6 yards. 

Dylan Stroud 1 catch for 7 yards, Elijah Ekers 1 catch for 6 yards and John Jarrell 1 catch for 5 yards.

Kyndul Kincaid and Greyson Golden led the team in tackles with 7 each, Chase Thompson and Jesse Jarrell with 6 each, Robert Evans and Dylan Stroud had 5 each, Peyton Rice and Ryan Montcastle had 4 each, John Jarrell, Danny Ray Ferguson, Elijah Ekers and Caleb Thompson had 3?each, Devin Honeycutt had 2 tackles.

Greyson Golden had 1 interception and 1 fumble recovery, Peyton Rice recovered a fumble.

The Rebels will be off this coming Friday before traveling to face #4 Tug Valley on October 24th.

“… Really proud of our team for battling against a good ball club. Still making mistakes that put us in tough spots that we can’t overcome. Thought the kids played hard and attitudes are getting better each week but we still have a ways to go and the schedule doesn’t get any easier.” 

“… Hopefully with the bye week we can get some kids healthy before we go into the last three games of the regular season and make a run at this thing.”
