TOLSIA DROPS SEASON OPENER TO COUNTY FOE, WAYNE PIONEERS

Glenhayes, W. Va. –– Wayne used a big second half to defeat Tolsia 76-41 in the season opener for both teams Tuesday at Rebel Arena.

In a very physical first half that had Rebel Arena rockin’ the Pioneers led 26-20 at halftime behind 10 points from Wayne Senior Issac Meddings.  Evan Ball did a good job on Meddings before picking up his second foul which sent him to the bench. 

In the third quarter it was all Wayne who increased their halftime lead out to 30 points behind Senior Peyton Marcum who scored 13 of his 16 points in the third period. 

Tolsia tried to make a couple of runs but couldn’t put a dent in the Wayne lead. 

Rebel Senior Bray Mollette led his team with 13 points.  Sophomore Robert Evans tallied 8 points, Sophomore CJ Waller added 7 points, Junior Evan Ball had 3 points, Seniors Cole Blackburn, Dorian Reece and Brady Smith had 2 points each, Sophomore Zach Waller and Freshman Kyndul Kincaid had 2 points apiece. 

The Rebels hit 2 three pointers and went 10 of 18 from the free throw line. 

The Pioneers were led by Peyton Marcum with 16 points. Issac Meddings had 13 points, Cooper Adkins 12 points, Ronnie Staley and Landon Preece had 8 points each, Colton Heck 7 points, Colton Preece 6 points, Braden Lowe 4 points and Hunter Bryant 2 points. 

Wayne hit 8 three pointers and went 13 of 17 from the free throw line. 

Tolsia Juniors

The Rebels will return to action on Friday with a trip to Mingo Central ( 1-0 ) and then to Belfry on Tuesday ( 2-1 ).

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… I thought our defense in the first half was spot on. Held them to 26 points and be down only 6 is pretty good against a triple A team. The second half we just dug ourselves a big hole. I don’t think we wore down because we played 8 or 9 players  during the game. We didn’t shoot the ball good enough at all probably around 20% if that. And you can contribute that to them.”
