Springing Forward in Lawrence County Schools
As we move into spring, there is a sense of energy in Lawrence County Schools. We are getting more hours of daylight, the weather is getting warmer, and we are working hard to finish this school year strong. Spring is always a busy time at schools, filled with learning and a multitude of events.
Academically, students are preparing for end of year state testing and activities. Our teachers have been working to ensure that every student is ready to show what they have spent this year learning. We encourage parents and guardians to continue to encourage good study habits, good attendance, and a good attitude toward learning. We want every student to stay determined and focused as we work together to finish this school year strong.
Our LC determination was on full display recently with our LCHS boys’ basketball team. After facing a loss in the first round of district play, our Bulldogs never gave up, showing heart and teamwork to come back and win the regional championship. We are so proud of their hard work and resilience. They made Lawrence County proud.
Our students have also been excelling beyond the basketball court. Lawrence County High School, Louisa Middle, and Blaine Elementary had an outstanding showing at last week’s state HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) conference, where 2,500 students from across Kentucky competed in various categories. An incredible 18 Lawrence County students qualified for the international competition this summer in Nashville, proving once again that our students can compete with the best.
The arts continue to shine in our district. Our high school choir recently received a distinguished rating at regional competition and had the honor of opening the Kentucky School Boards Association conference in Louisville. Multiple high school students also competed in All-State Choir, while several elementary students from across the district participated in the Kentucky Music Educators Association Elementary District Choir. Our recent “Music in Our Schools” concert was a fantastic showcase of our students’ talent, and Fallsburg Elementary hosted a beautiful art show, celebrating the creativity of our young artists.
Family and community engagement events have also been in full swing. Louisa West and Fallsburg hosted a successful math night, oogiving students and families a chance to experience hands-on learning together. Louisa East recently held a student showcase, where students proudly displayed their projects and achievements. LCHS also hosted their Science Night on March 26. This public event showcased our science and technology learning programs.
Also, the new Career and Technical Education (CTE) addition at the high school is almost finished. We are excited about the new space it will provide for students in both carpentry and JROTC. Investments like these help our students and strengthen our Lawrence County home as a whole.
As we move closer to the end of the school year, I encourage students and staff to stay focused, and our community to remain engaged. Together, we are doing great things in Lawrence County Schools. I am excited to see what the future holds.
