Building Futures Through Career and Technical Education
At Lawrence County High School, we are proud to offer a robust Career and Technical
Education (CTE) program designed to prepare students for high-demand careers.
Over the years, CTE has transformed from a narrow focus on trades to a comprehensive program that blends academic learning with real-world job skills and opportunities.
LCHS offers these diverse CTE pathways:
- Fire Science: Launched during the 23-24 school year, this program prepares students for careers as firefighters and emergency responders.
- Computer Science: New this year (24-25), this pathway focuses on coding,
cybersecurity, and software development—ideal for careers in technology. - Agriculture: A modern program that prepares students for careers in farming and agribusiness.
- Carpentry: Provides hands-on training for construction and woodworking careers.
- Engineering: Focuses on design, robotics, and advanced manufacturing for future engineers.
- Nursing: Prepares students for healthcare careers, offering certifications like CPR and nurse aide training.
- Biomedical Science: A pathway for students interested in healthcare and biotechnology.
- Family and Consumer Science: Covers skills like nutrition, child development, and personal finance for careers in education, social work, and beyond.
- Aeronautics: Provides a foundation in aviation, preparing students for roles as pilots or technicians.
- Accounting and Business: Focuses on financial literacy and business management, leading to careers in finance or entrepreneurship.
- Heavy Equipment: Offers certifications and training for construction and machinery careers.
- JROTC: Builds leadership and discipline for careers in the military or civilian leadership
roles.
We are also excited to announce that construction is wrapping up on a new CTE addition at LCHS, funded through a state CTE grant. This addition will include updated spaces for our JROTC and carpentry programs, providing students with expanded facilities to enhance their learning.
In addition to classroom instruction and dual credit courses, seniors in pathways can also participate in our internship program, gaining valuable job-shadowing and work experience with local businesses aligned to their career pathways. Each pathway also has a student organization (club) where students can gain valuable leadership experience through competitions and organizational meetings.
We have also partnered with the University of Kentucky to implement dentistry instruction as part of existing health pathways. These CTE programs are a major strength for LCHS, contributing to one of the highest postsecondary readiness rates in Kentucky.
This hands-on approach not only enhances students’ education but also strengthens our ties to the local community. By investing in our CTE programs and facilities, we are preparing our students for successful futures and supporting the growth of Lawrence County.
