Softball Dawgs Off To 3-0 Start To Season

Louisa, Ky. — The Lawrence County Softball squad is off to a 3-0 start to the 2026 campaign after victories over Betsy Layne, Letcher Co. Central and Floyd Central.

Lawrence Co. 7 Floyd Central 4 ( Monday ) 

Senior Taylor Blevins improved to 3-0 in the circle with a complete game, striking nine, allowed eight hits, three earned runs and walked one. She also helped her own cause with a single and two runs batted in. 

Sophomore Addalyn Woods had two hits including a double and scored twice, Sophomore Emalynn Kitts doubled and drove in a run, Sophomore Lexi Crum doubled, drove in one and scored once, Sophomore Jada Patton singled, had one RBI and scored twice, Senior Ella Smith singled and drove in a run, Junior Millie Sammons singled, Sophomore Addison Bowen and Freshman Laila Dolen scored a run each. 

Lawrence Co. 7 Letcher Central 1 ( Friday ) 

The Dawgs went on the road and beat defending the 14th Region champion Cougars. 

Emalynn Kitts was 3-3 with on RBI, Jada Patton had two hits including a double, three runs batted in and scored twice.

Lexi Crum had two hits including a triple and scored two runs, 8th Grader Brinley Baisden singled, drove in one and scored twice, Taylor Blevins doubled, Sophomore Aleaha Gillispie singled and scored a run, Millie Sammons singled, Laila Dolen scored a run. 

Taylor Blevins was magnificent in the circle with a complete game three hitter, struck out four, walked one and game up one run. 

Emalynn Kitts is starting 2026 like she left off in 2025. 

Lawrence Co. 11 Betsy Layne 4 ( Thursday ) 

In the season opener the Dawgs beat the Bobcats at home. 

Emalynn Kitts went 3 for 3 with a home run and two doubles, drove in three and scored twice.

8th Grader Skyler Horn hit her first career home run, drove in two runs and scored twice.

Junior Baleigh Blackburn had two hits and scored two runs, Lexi Crum had two hits including a double, one RBI and scored a run, Aleaha Gillispie had two hits and one RBI, 8th Grader Anna Compton scored two runs, Millie Sammons had one RBI, Ella Smith walked three times and scored a run. 

Promising 8th Grader Skyler Horn blasted her first career home run on Thursday. 

Taylor Blevins went four shutout innings, struck out eleven, allowed two hits to get the victory. On offense Blevins had two hits and one RBI. 

The Dawgs will return to action on Tuesday at home versus Prestonsburg, on Thursday travel to Prestonsburg and Friday back home versus Shelby Valley.

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… I think they are capable of taking it to the next level, We will find out pretty quick that it will be different from last season. We will see everyone’s top pitcher, everyone’s best effort and we will have dug a little deeper.”

“… I really like our schedule it’s a good mix. Going to Myrtle Beach once again, a showcase at Lewis County, the 2A Section tournament as well. We have a lot of opportunities to get us ready for the postseason. And that is what it is all about to make sure we are ready and playing our best ball in May and June.”
