Prestonsburg, Ky. — It was a disappointing result for the SoccerDawgs in their bid to repeat as Region champions in a 2-1 loss to a very good Prestonsburg (17-3-3) team in the 15th Region championship game at Stonecrest Athletic complex.
The Bulldogs fell behind 2-0 before getting a goal from Zayla Granillo to cut the lead in half but couldn’t get any closer. The Blackcat Defense was very good in a matchup of two great programs.
Lawrence Co. finished 16-3-3 and one game from repeating as 15th Region champs and another state tournament appearance.
The SoccerDawgs were well represented as many ladies garnered postseason awards in 2017.

COACH’ COMMENTS
“… So of course bummed over the loss, but very proud of the team and the success we had this year. 16-3-2 is not easy task and that is credit to our hard work and dedication. We had some big wins this year in regular and postseason play. In addition to get back to the regional final was a goal of ourselves and even though we fell short, it keeps us hungry.”
“… We need to keep working and trusting the process so we can have the opportunity to compete at that stage again. We are losing some key seniors, but I am confident in the players we have returning. We will be back and prepared for 2018.”
