LOUISA, Ky. — A six year-old sustained serious injury after an accident at ‘The Cove’, a recreational facility at Yatesville Lake operated for profit by the Lawrence County fiscal court and county employee Suzie New, who is the manager of ‘The Cove’, a lawsuit filed April 3 says.
The lawsuit states the facility was not properly supervised when the accident happened.
Six year old Rox Bowen suffered head injuries when he butted heads with an adult female coming down a inflatable slide. Rox and his mother, Sasha Dotson filed the lawsuit over the incident which took place on June 6, 2023.
Also named in the lawsuit is “unnamed defendants’ but no information as to the identity of the unknown defendants was given in the lawsuit filed by Jason C. Reichenbach of Paintsville and E. Seth Combs of Hindman. It is expected to be other employees of the county or of the facility.
The suit calls ‘The Cove’ a “quasi-governmental entity operated for profit” by Lawrence County. The suit names Ms. New individually as the pool manager for negligence and lack of training of the staff at the facility. She is also owner of two cabins with two more on the way near ‘The Cove’.
‘The Cove’ has become a popular playground in the past two years for local citizens as well as tourists from all over. This is the first serious accident reported. The suit says Rox Bowen has permanent disfigurement, mental health problems, pain and anguish, medical expenses, and four other similar pain and anguish injuries, the lawsuit says.
A spokesperson at the Lawrence County judge’s office said the county’s insurance provider is KACO.
(A lawsuit contains only one side of a story.)
Funny this is anyone that knows Sasha knows she’s out for money and drama. Anything to keep from working. And her kids is so medically sick he’s out enjoying daily activities, sports and riding his dirt bike just like old times. Just sayin..

Lol who are you, anyway?? I bet anything that you’re one of the people who was working at The Cove @ time this happened and probably even one of the people in charge of supervising that specific slide & part of who caused this poor child to wind up with such traumatic injuries!! I bet anything you are either that or you’re just somebody who wasn’t even at The Cove the day this happened and you’re entirely clueless LOL (prob why you didn’t include your last name?? Lololol) Maybe you should read the article and the actual lawsuit document that was filed first instead of trying to act like these slides aren’t freakin death traps!!!
I agree with you. It use to be fun going swimming now you have to pay for everything. So sad why don’t they have free weeks every month or something?
We pay a $1. and they provide a lifeguard, clean beach and clean bathrooms.
I’d have to agree with Kassi, Sasha hasn’t changed since high school I’m js.

If they’re death traps why was your child there to begin with??
Sorry that comment was aimed @ being a reply to the post by Kassi, above, and not a criticism of the article or its author. Evidently my submission was inadvertently duplicated somehow. Feel free to delete or remove the duplicates.
The facility wasn’t properly supervised? Umm that’s why the parents are there, to WATCH their kids. He was down at the end of the slide, on the side, where he wasn’t even supposed to be, in the way of people coming down the slide. Sounds like a parental issue to me.
I’m confused on how it is the Cove’s fault and not the parents at hand?
I also thought I read somewhere that his parents didn’t blame the Cove that it was an accident and the very next day the kid was out running around and playing and had NO ISSUES AT ALL!
Again, when you go to any place like the Cove it truly is the PARENTS responsibility to monitor their child, to make sure they are safe. Is the parents going to sue the person he hit? Or no.
This is a ridiculous lawsuit but again the family from what Lawrence County already knows is like that.
How do you think you can win a lawsuit when the entire accident is on recording, ur son hanging over the edge of the slide when the other kids came down he fell over into the slide and thats everyone else’s fault but yours right? I don’t think so…if anything you need a CPS case for negligence and not watching ur own freaking kid! 200 yards away smh u should be ashamed to even file this stupid lawsuit smh go back to “working ur mouth” for ur money and stay out of The Cove js.
Where was the mother of the six year old? Why would you let a small child next to a ladder. With an adult coming down the slide anyway. I call that not watching your child!!
The mother was in the water approximately 200 yds away from her little boy!! Knowing good and well to the dangers around that area!
Yes it is a dangerous slide, but they had ropes and caution signs to aware people of the harm that could come from it!!
Remember that little piece of white paper you put your signature on Sasha?? Well that was a waiver you signed to hold the parent responsible for any injury or destruction to property!!
Ya know, any feasible adult would know where and when the kid is at all times!!
ID BE DAMNED IF SHE EVER WATCHED MY KID OR HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH MY KID IN THE FUTURE!!
MONEY GRUBBER THAT PAID ATTENTION TO SOMEONE THAT GOT PAID LAST YEAR AND THINKS, OOOO THIS IS MY TIME TO GET SOME CASH!!! EHHDUHHEHHDUHH
Yess kassi baby retweet
“The park wasn’t properly watched” why was she not watching him? And if it’s the kid on her Facebook he looks fine. This is why that area can’t have anything nice or fun for kids people are too money hungry.
Ridiculous to expect the facility to babysit your child for you. If you cant monitor your own child at a place you took them to thats on you. We as a world need to stop blaming and expecting others to do our jobs for us.
I don’t work there and I have no dog in this fight but this is the funniest thing I have read in a long time!
It just shows what our world has come to since everyone started suing each other to make quick money.
People are scared to death to have anything for fear of being sued.
I guess I am old school and when something happened to you then you took responsibility for your own actions.
So many aspects of our lives are changed just because of the fear of being sued!
It just makes me sad!
“The suit names Ms. New individually as the pool manager for negligence and lack of training of the staff at the facility. She is also owner of two cabins with two more on the way near ‘The Cove’.”
Why aren’t other people aloud to put cabins out there? Is there a bid process for this? Sounds like favoritism if it is not or has not been offered to others.
Do your research Mr. H and you know the answer. Wait you asked this question about six months ago and was told then. .
I did my research and the property was leased 9 years ago thats why, by the way everyone knows who you are H.
I was there that day and I couldn’t see my son for 5 mins and began to panic. I asked for help and it was amazing. Within 2 mins Susie and her crew had everyone out of the water including my son. I felt so bad for causing all trouble but I’m here to tell you they were prepared!
They’re saying the facility was not properly supervised when the accident happened? Umm, aren’t the parents supposed to be present with their kids and WATCHING their own kids? If she had been watching her kid properly she wouldn’t have let him be at the slide in a place where he wasn’t supposed to be. If it’s such a “death trap” he shouldn’t have been near the slide at all. Sounds like a parental problem to me
So then, by that logic, what would be the point in paying people to work as lifeguards?
What you and a lot of people seem to be failing to see is that simply by virtue of HAVING employees who are tasked with operating the slide, to lifeguard, to maintain orderly lines to the slide, make sure only 1 person at a time goes down, make sure riders meet or exceed the minimum height requirements….. and so on —- just by paying an employer to do any of these things means they (and their employer) have chosen to VOLUNTARILY take on a duty to do those things, whether required to or not. And the law says that one who assumes a duty CANNOT carry out that duty haphazardly or negligently and if they do & a person gets hurt as a result of that negligence then they are liable for it.
It’s not a difficult concept for one to wrap their head around, really, but if you need it simplified even more than that, I don’t mind to do that. Don’t pretend to understand if you really don’t – there’s no shame in it.
Lifeguards are not babysitters. By leaving a kid unsupervised intentionally, you’re putting everyone else at risk for requiring a lifeguard to solely focus on one instead of the whole. They are not there to cater to one person the whole time. If you feel the need to have a child, you should feel the need to care for them, always, at all times.
Do you take kids to the store and turn them loose, expecting the employees to babysit them, simply because they’re paid?
Do you take kids to a hospital and let them run wild in hopes that a nurse or doctor will keep an eye on them because they “voluntarily” took on the job?
Do you go to Texas Roadhouse and hand your kids off to the waiters at the door so you can have a dinner alone, without needing to care for your child?
No.. no you don’t. Why would you expect a lifeguard to babysit your child when they are there to keep an eye on everyone in case of an emergency situation. That’s not babysitting. They’re there for everyone in the event of an emergency situation.
It’s not a difficult concept for one to wrap their head around, really.
I don’t know, but that sounds more like child neglect by the parent and putting others in danger, than it does a lifeguard “not doing their job”.
So to compare lifeguards’ job and what is expected of them to that of retail store employees and restaurant employees… I’m just at a complete loss how you are simply unable to fathom the distinction between the former & the latter. It’s literally IN THE NAME OF THE JOB TITLE—-“LIFE” “GUARD” lmao. They’re responsible for, among other things, enforcing facility rules—particularly safety-related rules. To say that they allowed a child to go down the slide means that they, too, were not paying sufficient attention. Would it change your perspective, for example, if you were to learn that the child did not meet or exceed the slide height requirements? By your logic, if a 6-7yo child runs off from a parent, then that means the child has voluntarily assumed ALL injury risks and the employees/manager bear no responsibility at all??? Lol come on, your position flies in the face of reason and reality. I feel bad for you, seriously, I cannot imagine what it must be like to be so overall uneducated and obtuse.
If a child “runs off from its parents” how is that anyone elses fault? If the parent cant control their child they definitely shouldn’t expect anyone else to. Talk about bad parenting.
As well if a child runs off frol a parent. Its the PARENTS fault not a store manager or a lifeguard. Why anyone would allow a 6 year old child to be left alone in water and not supervised by the parent and expect life guards to babysit them is ridiculous.
You are an idiot…
Sorry …may have called the wrong person an idiot….this person is the idiot….
The Concerned Citizen must have the kids that run like banshees in Walmart….
Life. Guard.
Not… Baby. Sitter.
I gave 3 distinctly different scenarios, yet your little mind still couldn’t put 2 and 2 together.
Lifeguards are not there to babysit your child so you can be a football field away from them, laughing and having a jolly ole time with your buddies.
Go look at court cases regarding this very thing. Many people tried to blame lifeguards for injuries to their child because they left the child for the lifeguard to take care of. Some of them were not only thrown out, the court then went after the parent for neglect for putting the child in the position to allow the injuries to happen.
But go ahead. Please enlighten us with more of your nonsensical behavior.
People have always came out of the woodwork to bash sasha, most likely the same people who have taken advantage of her through the years. Or those who are jealous. One thing you can’t do is bash her parenting, she is the best mother to not only her kids but everyone’s kids. The difference in her is she would post her name. She is the most realist person most of us have ever met, she’s one of the hardest workers, loves and gives anything she has to anyone around her. She brings life and joy to everyone. From reading these comments people are making up there own theory and that is to be expected. The truth will come out. Proud of you Sasha, you are doing the right thing.
It’s funny the positive comments about Sasha keep getting removed. One sided much?
None of the comments have been removed.
I am guessing there aren’t many positive comments about her!
Anyone who has been around them knows that there was a problem with this family way before this incident happened.
Just frustrates me that they are going to get rich off of this incident that was just as much their fault as the workers or anyone else.
Crazy!
