On 04/20/2023 at 7:48 AM The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department responded to Valero gas station South off of Hwy 23 in reference to a male subject asleep behind the wheel of a silver Dodge Charger. Upon arrival the deputy made contact with the driver Richard Craft. He seemed confused and his pupils were very small in size.
When the deputy asked Richard to exit out of the vehicle he had him stand beside the cruiser and asked him if he wouldn’t mind to empty his pockets on the bed of my truck to check for weapons. He agreed, but the deputy noticed that Richard had pulled something out of his front left pocket and had shoved it in his back waist band.
“I retrieved a glass pipe from Richard’s waist band and he stated that the substance within the pipe was meth and the he has a prior for DUI in Wolfe County from 2022 methamphetamine,” the arrest report said.
LCSO then conducted SFST and results are below. It was also discovered that Richard was driving on a DUI suspended license Horizontal gaze nystagmus tests indicate: Operator showed equal pupil size; and equal tracking. Operator did not show resting nystagmus. Officer observed distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation in both left and right eyes. Operator showed 2 of 6 clues on HGN.
