OUTRAGEOUS FUNNY OUTHOUSE RACE
2023 LAWRENCE COUNTY, KENTUCKY FAIR!
“Build, Push, Win: Participate in the Outrageously Funny Outhouse Races at the 2023 Lawrence County, KY Fair!”
By James Allen Pauley-Barker
Louisa, KY – Get ready for an exhilarating and laughter-filled experience at the Lawrence County, KY Fair this year as we bring you the thrilling and hilarious Outhouse Races. Let’s take a trip down memory lane to uncover how this side-splitting event found its way to our beloved fairgrounds.
It all started with a spark of inspiration from our current Vice President, James Allen Pauley-Barker. Seeking to enhance the fair’s appeal and bring joy to the surrounding communities, he recalled a visit to Bull Shull’s, Arkansas, where he witnessed an uproarious outhouse race at their local fair. The creativity and sheer fun involved in building and racing these makeshift outhouses left an indelible mark on his memory.
The Outhouse Races in Lawrence County, KY, are far more than just watching these peculiar contraptions roll down the tracks on wheels. Picture this: three determined pushers strive to navigate their sitter to the end of the track. Once there, they must quickly clean off a toilet seat smothered in chocolate syrup. But the challenges don’t end there; they must delve into a messy, soupy horse trough, cleverly disguised with cucumbers, carrots, and other mischievous items, in search of a lone corn cob. The next task involves trading out their toilet paper for a fresh roll before making their way back to the finish line. That’s the recipe for victory!
Recognizing the excitement and entertainment potential, the Lawrence County Fair Board enthusiastically embraced the idea, introducing the Outhouse Races as a thrilling addition to the fair. They even collaborated with the Lawrence County High School Carpenters & Art classes to construct race-ready outhouses. Although this year we have decided to allow the racers to use these outhouses for FREE. However, the fair organizers encourage participants to unleash their creativity and build their own racing outhouses. The internet offers a treasure trove of inspiration, with Google and YouTube providing a plethora of ideas for crafting these unique vehicles. To give you a taste of the excitement, we’ve included a photo of a creatively constructed outhouse from last year’s race, securing an impressive 1st place win was a team called “The 4-H Kids” . We want to see more of these remarkable creations! Gather your team of four (three pushers and one sitter), whether building your own or borrowing one of ours, and prepare for a chance to win not only bragging rights but also a handsome payout of $750 split between the top three finishers.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, July 29, 2023, when the Outhouse Racing event takes center stage at the Lawrence County KY Fair. Early registration will be available from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with the race commencing at 2 p.m. We count on your support in spreading the word about this exhilarating spectacle, as we aim to make it the biggest event in our tri-state area. Let’s unite and create lasting memories of laughter and camaraderie.

Jpb has to be the stupidest, most conceded person to ever walk into Lawrence co! He thinks he started the fair when it was started well before him. All the care about is the horses and rodeo. It should be for all the youth not just a select few.
Wow, it’s disheartening to see such negative and unfounded comments. It’s important to approach discussions with respect and understanding. Allow me to help you craft a more constructive response:
“Thank you for sharing your perspective, although I must say that your assumptions about me are completely unfounded. The Lawrence County Kentucky Fair has a rich history that precedes any individual’s involvement, and I’m well aware of that. I simply shared the excitement we felt as a team when we added this event to the community and fair.
Our goal has always been to create an inclusive and diverse fair experience for everyone, especially the youth. We strive to provide opportunities for a wide range of interests and talents to thrive. While horses and rodeo are certainly part of our fair, they are just one aspect among many others.
I’m proud of the collective efforts of our dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to make the fair a success. We welcome constructive suggestions and encourage you to join us in making our community an even better place. Let’s work together to create a fair that embraces and celebrates all the unique talents and interests of our youth. Your positive involvement would be greatly appreciated.”
Remember, it’s important to address criticism with grace and foster a productive conversation. Also, Ill add you to my prayer list COWGIRL!
