Results: The Republican ticket carried the day in Lawrence County as Daniel Cameron easily defeated incumbent Democrat Andy Beshear in the Kentucky Governor’s race in Lawrence County. At the time of this report it had not been determoined which has been elected Governor.
In the other much anticipated race was For or Against a new nickel-dime dime which would have added 11.8 cents per $100 to tax bills. The measure was defeated handily as Lawrence County voters refused the raise for the second time in the last five years. The tally was 2,188 ‘Against’ and 1,240 ‘For’.
In the Louisa city council election for the unexpired terms of two members earlier this year, Appointed members Coty Roe and Keith Chaffin won handily over newcomers. See total below as well as the Lawrence Co. voting for each office from Clerk Chris Jobe.
How many times can this be put on the ballot?
Once again the endorsement from the Bad Orange Man is the Kiss of Death.
Trumpsters are you tired of all of this WINNING?
People are so close minded. They worry about property tax going up a little. Well congratulations the value of your property will decline. Who wants to come to a county that is dying? I’ve been here my whole life and it’s incredible then and now. But be proud of your possessions. The things you fight so strongly for will be sold away the second you die. That’s why I chose to try to help the next generation not hoard all that I have. Matthew 6:19-21
Don’t think your property taxes wiil go down in FACT the school tax has just about doubled in 18 years I have owned this house. It’s at around $850 not counting the school tax on just about every bill I get.
Very few years they don’t take the compensation raise.
Read what I wrote I said VALUE not tax 😂
That’s how property taxes work the assessed VALUE of your property.
Have you ever owned a House or piece of property that has ever been lowered?
If you did it didn’t take long before it was raised.
That scripture tells us not to worship money like a hoarding dragon and to do the good work of heaven on earth. Nothing in that scripture talks about taxes or tells us to outsource our morality in service of our neighbors to the State. Outsourcing morality is lazy and passive and not in any way virtuous. In fact in Matthew 22 Jesus outwitted the Pharisees who were trying to get him to admit to not paying taxes and incriminate himself by his own words but instead Jesus “perceived their wickedness” and cryptically said “Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s.” Jesus is basically saying give Caesar what is of the world, but Jesus refused to give tribute because Jesus was not of this world as he wholly belonged to God. Jesus tells us not to be of the world as well. Defending taxation is unbiblical.
If the VALUE of the property decreases, then it won’t be worth what it used to be worth. If that becomes the situation, then the PVA will have to reassess every property in LC. Therefore, our taxes will actually decrease in Lawrence County. Now, we all know that’s not going to happen!! LC is going about it all wrong to get support. First, you can’t put something to a vote and then change the language. Especially removing the 20 year termination time. Second, you’re asking Blaine and Fallsburg residents to fund a school that will never benefit their children. Third, a clause was added by Fletcher that is vague enough to cover spending the money on whatever they want with no one to stop the board. Fourth, it should not be legal for a board of education to establish a tax rate on a citizen..EVER! A well defined plan with TRANSPARENT expenditures would be a good start. A well defined timeline for the duration of taxation is necessary to gain support. At the 20 year mark, there should be a mandatory vote to continue the tax. If the tax rate passes at 11.7 cents/hundred, then it should never be allowed to increase without a vote. Several things should have been done differently to gain the support of the voters. Given the way it was written (and then changed) and presented, no wonder it didn’t pass.
Go ahead and try to get full value out of anything in a dying county it will be a joke so sleep tight thinking you have more than you do 😂
I don’t understand everyone saying it’s a dying county. Is it dying simply because a double nickel tax didn’t pass? Is a new roof on the middle school going to revitalize the county and stimulate the economy? Will a new elementary school bring hundreds of new jobs to LC? Or, better yet, will earmarking tax money for LC sports cause land values to double in the county? Help the no-voters understand how we have “killed the county”.
I can’t believe how blind people are the dying county comments comes from the fact that student attendance has went from 900 plus down to 600 plus at the high school alone. You think that’s not a sign. Kids that graduate are leaving and not re investing in LC. You use to be able to get $1000 an acre in LC but now the court house files say that that has dropped to $700 acre average. I guess that’s not a sign. Boyd has went UP to $1600 an acre from $1100 in the past 5 years only LC and Inez in Eastern Ky has dropped. Now do you Understand.
Mr. Research needs to get his head out of the sand he needs to see how much a acre of land is it’s a hell of a lot more than a $1,000.
Haha. Have you not tried to buy land or anything here? It’s continually skyrocketing! It’s not dying at all! And to compare us to Boyd county is absurd! They possibly 150 more million a year going to schools on taxes! We have no businesses here for jobs! Never have either. So your argument seems pretty invalid.
You guys must be Republicans. You can’t make them or you understand! Maybe if I had a coloring book I could explain it to you but the reason you don’t understand is the reason you will never understand. Go to the court house and ask for an updated property value tax bracket. Pretty simple. Get on any of the housing for sale websites you can get ALL kinds of properties under $1000 an acre.
Mr. Boomer would you post the web site that an acre of land is $1,000 or at least show us your color book.
Like I said go to the courthouse and ask for a property value tax bracket. Just because I ask $1000 dollars an acre doesn’t mean I can get it not even close. A lot of land being sold is from the oil boom and has been up for sale over a year. This will be my last post I gotta teach my 3rd grade class and they seem to understand things alot better. Peace love and happiness. Vote Biden
Mr. Boom/Bidens boy toy please don’t indoctrinate children then if you’re truly a teacher. I’ve been around here for quite some time I don’t care what some made up statistic says, if land were that cheap I’d purchase quite a bit today “kind being!”
Mr. Joe Biden 2024 I didn’t think you know what you are talking about. Land $1,000 a acre what a joke.
Where was the board? Silent! No posts on Facebook, nothing! They should all resign! Mr. See I don’t even think he knows he’s at the meeting and does nothing! Ms. Robinson does nothing shows up and gets a check, Ms. Roberts does nothing and shows up and gets a check. Ms Skaggs is just there for Blaine. Ms. Rice is new but clueless and was the laziest teacher to ever teach and useless. For the sake of all the children resign and let someone else try, it can’t get any worse. We already lost several good teachers and more are planning because we don’t believe in our board.
Talk about hitting the nail on the head.
Where has the board been the last 9 years? This is their second attempt to pass the levy and most folks have NEVER gotten a visit or had a discussion with their board representative. During the petition effort, not one person that I spoke with had been contacted prior to the school board voting unanimously to pass the tax levy. Sadly, their only influence appeared to be from the superintendent, who promptly started contacting those who signed the recall petition, once it was turned in to the clerks office, asking why they signed it. Seemed rather obvious to me 🤷🏻♀️ The recall committee did exactly what the school board should have done. Canvas the community and get a feel for how folks felt.
I agree, several, not necessarily all, on the school board need to be replaced. I was stunned by the hostility simply because we had differing opinions.
My hope is that more people will get involved, attend the school board meetings and make this a much better community.
I will never understand why the school board members are allowed to sit on that board with no limits. I graduated in the 90s and at least 2 of them were on the board then… we will not see any change or improvment until the laws are changed to make a school board something you can only serve so many years on. None of these people have children currently in Lawrence County Schools and you are correct Susie Rice was lazy and not much of a teacher. But like happens so often she is now apart of the Workings of the board office. My issue with the tax was the fact that so many things like cosolidating Blaine and Fallsburg with Louisa schools were attached and I simply do not agree with it. IF the tax had been for a new Louisa West only i would have been onboard , sadly that wasnt the case.
Because No Body Will Sign up and run Against The Board Members They are Elected Just like anyone else but Look back at the Last few Elections No Body but them Signed up so if You want New Board Members Run for the Position then
Susie Rice actually threw a party last night. I guess she was not too concerned about little children at the West.
The board and Fletcher don’t try to solve complex problems they just ask for money. Here is an idea. Through out adult ED from louisa east. Combine louisa east and west. What are they half mile apart? If needed build on to east to accommodate. As a county we could support that. Sell or demo the West. Sell the property. Probably saved us the taxpayers a good 38-40mil right there. Leave Fallsburg and blaine through 8th grade. Look at how to fill up the schools to use to their potential. Then let’s sit down and find ways to pay for cafeteria for the schools and repairing the roof on louisa middle. (newest school in the county needs a new roof already?)
There is nothing to like about this county except that I’m able to get out of paying taxes
Cause I’m on the draw.
For one when are all of you going to open your eyes and realize that NO ONE on the LC Board is concerned about any other school in the county other than the ones in Louisa? NOT once is it mentioned about anything being done to Blaine or Fallsburg, nope just Louisa West.. EXCUSE me while I go and cry 😢 yes I am sure there are mold in the building and so forth BUT do any of you think that Blaine and Fallsburg don’t have any issues either? We are SICK and tired of forking out money all of the time while our kids are pushed to the side! We have a sorry Board member who voted for this SHAME on you and shame on all of you teachers who think that this is going to improve All of the schools when we all know it will only go to LOUISA and for sports 🙄! OPEN up your eyes you dumb teachers it’s bad enough you voted beshear back in office, But people that actually get out and work for a living want to keep their money!!
Now let’s get serious for once did you really think a confederate state was going to put a black man in charge?
Kentucky was NOT a Confederate State.
Snid for a short time they was in the confederate states in Fact Bowling Green was the capitol of the confederate. But they had to leave Ky after the took loses from the union army.
https://explorekyhistory.ky.gov/items/show/372
It had 2 Capitols there my friend. The Union Capital was Louisville . Kentucky was the birthplace of both Abe and Jeff (50 miles apart). However Kentucky NEVER left the Union nor joined the Confederacy…FACT.
Again Sid “Confederate Kentucky was admitted into the Confederate States of America on December 10, 1861.” Just what part of this you don’t understand?

I am a lifelong Lawrence County citizen!
I have strong ties to Fallsburg and Blaine but I feel like we shouldn’t be making this an US versus THEM issue.
We are Lawrence County and our taxes pay for things all over the county and we should be trying to help whatever school has the most need.
And I am pretty sure that each school had something new on that list of building improvements, including Fallsburg And Blaine.
Louisa West is the oldest school in the county that does have the most issues, so I think we all should be working to help them.
I am sure that we all pay taxes on things that we will never be using such as the elderly with no kids could be against it but I would hope they would want to help the future of the county even after they are gone.
Let’s just all be together when wanting the best for our county and not just for one part.
It helps us all in the long run!
You are all some nasty people especially keeping it real
I’m nasty too, but I don’t take a bath!
I went to the grade school n 1960, I was n the first grade, Pansy Walker was my teacher, I was so sad to hear that the grade school might have been a whole different building!!!! I don’t like change. I was born n the old General Hospital n 1955 & I wish my hometown of Louisa would never change even though it has, unfortunately.
The biggest problem with Lawrence county is the migration of immigrants from Martin county, republicans moving here after they destroyed it to the point it’s not fit to live in.
Republicans are all for, as their supreme commander stated, “I love the uneducated “ and it shows.
There has been more tax dollars come into Lawrence county in the past few years than any time I can remember, primarily because of Rocky helping get it here. I just hope Governor Beshear supports Lawrence county the same way they supported him and the Republican here can get their drinking water out of the potholes they have to drag their clunkers out of.
Curt we need to build a wall and make Martin County pay for it.
They could used the money they spent on all the new stuff fix football field and things . Should used money fix the schools not football field but as always Football comes first.
