Addiction Recovery Care (ARC) is reminding people that treatment is available 24/7/365 (even on the holidays)
The New Year’s Eve holiday can be a challenging time for people in recovery from substance use disorders, especially those who are newer to recovery.
As we prepare to ring in 2023, Addiction Recovery Care (ARC) is reminding people that treatment is available 24/7/365 (even on the holidays) and offering tips on how people in recovery and their loved ones can start their new year healthy and safe and still have fun.
In a new blog post, Erin Fogarty, ARC’s Director of Events and Communications and an individual in long-term recovery, shares several tips for a safe and sober New Year:
- Host a sober New Year’s Eve party.
- Spend the night with a group of sober friends.
- Bring your favorite non-alcoholic drink with you.
- Make short appearances.
- Do NOT spend New Year’s Eve by yourself.
- Keep it simple, and apply structure.
The start of a new year also prompts many people to make resolutions. Those in active addiction may decide it’s time to pursue treatment and start a new chapter. However, if the first of the year passes and you haven’t started to seek help, remember it is never too late to begin your recovery journey. On the other hand, don’t feel like you have to wait until January 1st to make a positive change in your life.
Please consider sharing these tips in any of your coverage around the new year, and reach out if you’d like to set up an interview with an ARC representative to discuss these topics further.
Thank you for all you’ve done to help us spread the word about treatment and recovery in Kentucky, and Happy New Year.
