NEW DIGS AND NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN FOR GOD’S FOOD PANTRY
Louisa, KY, May 15, 2023 — God’s Food Pantry, a program of the Louisa/Ft. Gay Ministerial Association, has moved two doors over to Unit 1. Owners of the building have been renovating and has gifted God’s Food Pantry will Kirst renovated space on Southland Drive.
Since December, our local God’s Food Pantry has implemented new software and added equipment with grants through God’s Pantry Food Bank, making it possible to continue the drive-thru service that became popular and preferred by clients during the pandemic. Volunteers never missed a week of service, adjusting to the requirements brought on by the pandemic and now learning software that makes it possible to continue to offer drive-thru service. Clients now receive key tags like the ones grocery stores use, and these are scanned car-side. Then each client signs on a tablet screen. The process is speeding up service now that most client data has been input.
This new process is enhanced by the new location as it provides more room for cars to line up and easier access for volunteers loading cars.
The move from 107 Southland Drive, Unit 3 to Unit 1 was completed on Monday, May 15 with the help of building’s owner and students from the Lawrence County High School CTE Department. Freezers and refrigerators were moved early, then students assisted with moving the large shelving units and reassembling them in the new space.
“It was all done before we expected,” said one food pantry volunteer.
Volunteer Sally Chapman said, “The students were just great and we are thankful to Tri-Span Construction for their ongoing support to provide our location. They have provided a very nice space for us to serve those in need in our community.”
Starting Thursday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., those needing food will still come to 107 Southland Drive. However with the new trafKic pattern, clients will turn left after they pass the car wash and follow the edge of the parking lot that curves toward the building. Volunteers will assist and as clients come to the building they will turn to drive along the side and receive food at the corner. There will be no need to drive along the front of the building and this will allow other units to utilize the parking in the front. It is a win-win for everyone.
