National Fire Prevention Week is celebrated this year October 9- 15. Fire Prevention Week was initiated by the National Fire Protection Agency in 1922 to commemorate the Chicago Fire of October 9, 1871.
Louisa Fire Dept. will have its usual visits to local schools and other fire safety events. LVFD Chief Eddie Preston could not be reached for comment on this year’s activities and there was nothing listed on the LVFD Facebook page.
October 9 -15 is National Fire Prevention Week in Louisa
During this week, the Louisa Fire Department will be out in the community teaching fire safety. Each day during this week, the Louisa Fire Department will be going around to the schools teaching fire safety to the kids.You can go to the following link: www.fpw.org to download free information and tips on how to keep your family safe. On this site, you will find activities such as coloring pages, quizzes, fire escape plans and e-books all free to help in teaching kids to be fire safe.
If you live in or around Louisa, the following activities will be going on:
TUESDAY – 10/11/2022 – Starting at 6:00 p.m., fire engine rides will take place at Station 1 (downtown station). The rides will be from 6:00PM to 8:00PM and Sparky will be on hand to give out balloons and fire hats to everyone who attends.
SATURDAY – 10/15/2022 – Open house will be at the Louisa Community Center, located on Pike Street, from 11:00AM to 3:00PM. Events for the day will included the following:
Healthnet Aeromedical
Live fire safety demonstrations
Fire safety house to teach kids how to escape a smoke filled home
Fire engine rides
Fun inflatables
Sparky will be on hand to greet the kids with fire hats and balloons
At the end of the day, there will be a drawing for door prizes such as smoke alarms, fire extinguishers and a bicycle for a boy and a girl.
