Mary Frances Adkins (nee Hooser), died Thursday, the 20th of December at her home in Louisa, a few days after her 76th birthday of December 17.
Born in 1942 in Prichard, WV, Mary graduated from Fort Gay High School in 1960, and after graduation worked at Dee’s in Louisa, KY where she met her lifelong husband, Russell Adkins. They were married for almost 57 years and enjoyed homes in both Louisa and in Springfield Township, MI. Mary was preceded in death by her father Arthur Hooser, mother Florence Hooser, sister Roberta Skeens, brother Ronnie Hooser, and nephew Herbert Lee Hooser.
She is survived by her husband Russell, her sons Randall, Wendall “Brian” (Danielle) and Paul, her sister Joyce Skeens, brother Arthur Hooser, grandchildren Kathryn, Grace, Emily, Lauren, Ethan, Tyler, Leland, and nieces/nephews Verna, Jack, Ruth, Mark, and Bradley. She was especially close with her nieces Debbie and Diane. Mary was committed to raising, loving, and supporting her family and devoted her life to this. She enjoyed playing piano, working in the garden, hosting family and attending church when she was able to.
Mary was a private person who did not wish for a big funeral or a public viewing. So at her request, a simple graveside burial will occur at the Adkins family cemetery on Chapel Road in Louisa on Thursday, December 27, at 2:30 pm, with Pastor Jerry Hughes officiating.
Funeral arrangements are being managed by Wilson Funeral Home. A public wake will occur after the burial at First Baptist Church’s Family Life Center, 301 W. Pike Street in downtown Louisa.
Instead of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mary’s name to The National Kidney Foundation of Kentucky, 161 St. Matthews Ave., Suite 3, Louisville, KY 40207.
