PILGRIM, Ky. — A Martin County man was arrested on felony charges of assault and unlawful imprisonment related to spousal abuse.

A 911 call was made from a home on Frog Pond Road, near Pilgrim, on Saturday, by a woman reporting a domestic dispute, saying that there was blood everywhere inside the home.

When police arrived at the residence, both were gone, but officers observed blood, beer cans and clutter scattered throughout the home.

Soon afterwards, West Virginia State Police got in touch with local officers to say they had detained the suspect, identified as Dewayne Collins, 55, at the state line.
When police interviewed the couple, Collins said there had been no physical altercation and that the blood inside the home was from some raccoons he had killed.
But the victim told police Collins had been drinking and became verbally abusive, before assaulting her with a skillet, a jar of honey and his fist. The police report says the woman had visible blood on her arms and legs and a cut on her face, as well as honey on her leg.

She further told police Collins made her drive him to West Virginia after learning she had contacted police.

Collins was arrested and charged with assault, unlawful imprisonment, disorderly conduct and alcohol intoxication.

He is being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville, on a 10-thousand dollar cash bond.
