INDIANAPOLIS, IND. — The Indianapolis Colts has tabbed former Lawrence Co. and Western Ky. star athlete Jason Michael, 40, as their new tight ends coach for the upcoming season.
The Colts went 9-7 in 2018 and went into the playoffs as the #6 seed in the AFC Playoffs where they upset the #3 seed Houston Texans 21-7 before falling to the Kansas City Chiefs 31-13 the next weekend.
Michael has 16 years of coaching experience, including 13 seasons in the NFL. He served as the tight ends coach for the Arizona Cardinals in 2018 after four seasons (2014-17) on the Tennessee Titans’ coaching staff.
Michael also spent time with the San Diego Chargers (2011-13), San Francisco 49ers (2009-2010), New York Jets (2006-07) and Oakland Raiders (2005). At the collegiate level, he had two stints at the University of Tennessee (2003-04, 2008).
Michael’s dad Eddie, of Louisa, said this week that Jason is reuniting with the head coach and two assistants who he coached with during his stay in San Diego.
“Jason knows them and the offense they want to run so he decided to make the move,” Eddie said. “It’s only about a four hour drive from what he calls his permanent home in Nashville, Tennessee.”
